About Dusty
Despite his big, tough exterior, Dusty is a sensitive soul who needs a patient, loving home. It takes a while for Dusty to let his guard down, but those who crack his outer shell are rewarded with the trust of a truly special greyhound.
Dusty is low maintenance. He’s quite comfortable spending time on his own and will let you know when he wants a cuddle by coming up and learning on you for a back scratch. While he prefers to be left alone while he is sleeping, he does like having his humans near and is most relaxed when they are around. He would suit a family who is happy to give him his space and allow Dusty time to feel comfortable around them.
Dusty is sensitive to loud noises so would suit living in a quiet, regional property, with lots of space to run around the backyard. He wouldn’t mind living with a calmer dog to keep him company. He’s exceptionally well behaved and very polite around the house. He doesn’t try to steal food, sleeps through the night without issue, and is very good on walks, although tires quickly.
He is a striking fellow with a beautiful coat and exceptional features. Dusty is a sensitive, empathetic and intelligent dog who will worm his way into your heart.
No cat or small dog applications please.
A quiet neighbourhood or rural area.
We only consider applications who compete our online application.
When this is done we can make contact to discuss adopting a greyhound and potential suitable greys currently in foster care.
Medical notes
Dusty has a few health concerns:
Minor incontinence requiring twice daily oral medication, which has completely resolved it.
Arthritis in his front paw caused by a racing injury, which will require a course of cartrophen injections every few months as needed.
Once daily anti-anxiety medication.
He’s had issues with corns in the past and these are a chance of reoccurring.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
