About Buddy - Located in Frankston
Buddy is a wonderful boy. He is affectionate, playful and smart. He arrived as a skinny stray, and it took a couple of months until he felt safe and stopped hissing.
As soon as he felt safe, he rubbed against the carer's legs and let the carer pick him up and take him to the vet for vaccinations and desexing. He is great at the vets.
He likes the carer's dog (a bull terrier) and they greet and Buddy will sometimes follow him round. The dog is very respectful and a little scared of cats.
Buddy will sometimes use the carer's arm as a toy, grabbing and holding it and mouthing. He does this more when bored or frustrated - a game of ball or some play helps. A good knowledge of cat body language can stop this before it escalates.
He would be unsuitable for a home with young children or the elderly.
Buddy loves the dog he lives with, so he should be suitable with another cat friendly dog.
Buddy is better with no other cats in the house though.
Buddy will make someone the most perfect companion. He sits, nose targets, shakes paw and is learning spin.
I am FIV+ - but don't see that as a negative, because I really am a great catch.
Read more about FIV under "Medical Notes".

IMPORTANT NOTE - COVID19 PRACTICES
Due to the current lockdown in Melbourne we once again need to do things a little differently!
Once you have applied for a cat our foster carer will contact you by telephone.
If at the end of this discussion you would like to progress we will then arrange an online meet n greet with the carer and cat.
If you think this cat might be your PURRFECT match we will be utilising our premises at Neko HQ in Preston for the final meet n greet and if agreed adoption.
Our carers are unable to have a guest in their homes.
We ask that only one person from the family attend, and that all COVID safe practices are followed to ensure your health and that of our volunteers as well as the general community.
We thank you for your patience throughout this process.

Medical notes
The adoption fee includes desexing, microchip, current vaccination, flea and worm treatment while in care.
FIV positive cats live a normal life for many many years and we cannot predict the life span of these cats. FIV positive cats sometimes have a scruffy coat and the condition can lead to chronic recurrent infections in the mouth, eye and skin. FIV cannot infect people, however it can infect other cats through bite wounds commonly from fights. FIV positive cats can co-exist with other cats that don't have FIV without issues.
We encourage that the cat is either an indoor cat or a confined cat - eg access to a cat run outdoors. We recommend regular vet visits (6 monthly) to monitor weight, coat changes, mouth etc.
