About Poppy
Poppy is a triple merle Border Collie and is 12 months old.
She is a very loving little lady, she is crate trained, toilet trained, lead trained, microchipped, registered and fully vaccinated. She loves to go for long drives in the car. She enjoys her walks, but these must always be on lead. Poppy has some issues with anxiety and is on medication for this.
Poppy is able to warily walk past other dogs if they are on the other side of the road and well controlled, she doesn’t seem to be bothered by people or cyclists passing. Poppy LOVES ball time in the back yard and as this is such a high value reward for Poppy, it is a great tool to refocus her. Poppy enjoys a range of “enrichment toys” that we have used as part of her anxious behaviour management. These toys, plus her crate will all be provided.
Poppy likes to wake quite early, around 6am and she is very excited and full of cuddles and kisses to make sure you get up and let her out to the toilet, and provide some ball time if it’s not dark! This is the time to start her morning medications and provide her with an “enrichment” toy, such as her licking bat or wheel, or snuffle mat. These are designed to help calm and soothe her by focussing her energy in a positive way.
Once you’re up Poppy loves a good stint of ball time in the yard before breakfast, which is always in her crate. After breakfast Poppy will try and convince you she needs some more ball time. This is usually her more anxious time of the day. We have found that some ball time, or a walk and then use of her enrichment toys are the best way to manage this. Poppy will settle either in or outside, with some barking in response to new noises, or just for attention. Poppy can be prone to some “bored” digging in the yard if given the opportunity.
In the evening Poppy likes to come inside and settle after dinner. This usually happens quite quickly. Poppy will sleep in her crate, or snuggle up on your bed if she’s allowed to! Poppy sleeps through the night without requiring any attention.
Poppy’s ideal living environment would be one where she has someone at home full time, otherwise, minimal time on her own. No other pets is essential. Someone who can commit to her ongoing medication and behavioural management. Someone that is patient and appreciates that Poppy’s behaviours are a result of her environment and as such require support, love and reassurance, never reprimanding or punishment. Poppy will more than reward you for your investment in her with loyalty, love and a playful, happy disposition.
We have found that Border Collies with anxiety issues do really well in a quiet single person household - where the person is retired and has a lot of time to spend bonding with them and sharing time together.
Medical notes
Poppy has some issues with anxiety and is on medication for this.
Poppy needs a home without other animals. In a home with other dogs, her anxiety manifests as resource guarding. Since being separated from the other dogs she lived with, Poppy has improved exponentially.
Adoption details
If you are interested in one of our dogs, please send us an email at: hopespringseternaldogrescue@gmail.com in the first instance telling us who you are interested in, and why. We will then send you an adoption application to complete.
At a minimum, we will expect that all of our dogs will be inside/outside dogs and will be treated as a valued member of the family.
If your family needs match the needs of the dog, we will call you to discuss further and arrange a time for you to meet the puppy you are interested in.
If this goes well and you are keen to proceed, we will organise a mutually convenient time with you to undertake a fence/home check - and for the dog you are interested in to meet the rest of the family - both human and other animals.
If you feel that you would like to add the dog to your family, we will ask you to pay the adoption fee and the dog will commence a 4 week trial period - for all of you (both humans and pets) to make sure that you will all be happy living together. We will check in on you during this time and will be available to respond to any concerns you may have during this period.
If everyone is happy at the conclusion of the trial, we will transfer the microchip and provide you with any medical records and information we have on the dog you have adopted.
We will take the dog back into care at any time - if things do not work out - and we appreciate that sometimes - they just don't - for a number of reasons.
We will ask for a happy snap of the dog with their new family members for our adoption gallery and will ask whether we can use that in promoting our rescue on Facebook, the Internet or other promotional materials.
We want the process of adoption to be a happy and exciting time for you and your potential new family member and will work with you to make the experience as positive as possible.
