About Josie ~ Bull Arab x ~ (On Trial 5/9/20)
Hi I’m Josie aka Jo-Jo and I’m a sleek 1.5 year old Bull Arab x . Even though I’m microchipped as a Bull Arab x everyone thinks I’ve got Greyhound in my breed mix. I get my pretty colouring from the bully breed but my dainty frame , speed and nose for smells seem to be more like a Greyhound.
No matter what breed I am I’m a stunning and sweet girl and will make the right family an amazing best friend. Currently I’m a bit of a mans dog - I love men and I definitely listen to them more. I have a man’s condition called “Selective Hearing” so I need extra training on my attention span and listening skills - if you are a female I’ll be affectionate with you but you’ll need to be assertive with me so that I listen to you.
I’m very scent driven like a hound - I’ve forever got my nose to the ground sniffing out for small prey - I’m an amazing rat catcher and I’ve already caught rats as surprise gifts for my foster family. Chickens, pocket pets and cats are too much like dinner for a dog like me so I need a home without them and the temptation of snacking on them!
I’m an active girl who requires a good sized yard and a long walk or run each day. Due to my lean and sleek body I could be trained as a jogging partner so that I can run out some of my excess energy. I won’t suit apartments, courtyards or small yards - if you’ve got a generously sized yard where we can play treat hiding games I’d be in my element. My off lead recall is non existent - so I’m not the sort of girl that you could let off-lead or take to the dog-park - you couldn’t call me back and I’d more than likely want to chase all those pesky little dogs (which isn’t fun for them at all!)
I’d thrive in a home with a couple older than say 30+ years who are experienced with large dogs - if you know and love the Greyhound or Bull Arab breeds then I may be a perfect match for you. I’m best suited to a home with no young kids - their needs would take the focus away from my current training needs. I’m still young like a naughty teenager myself, so I have a bit of work to do on my boundaries and social skills to help me grow into a well-rounded adult. I may suit a family with older teens especially if they are really active like me.
I’m in foster care with 3 dogs - 2 senior females and 1 goof-ball young Bull Arab Bernie - Bernie and I run around the yard together and play tug and rough-house each other. I do enjoy his company but we did challenge each other for toys at the start as I wasn’t used to sharing . I would suit being a solo dog or being with one other playful male dog - my new family will need experience managing multiple dogs and will need to enforce boundaries and good canine manners with two large dogs.
I must be allowed inside the house at my new home - I have good indoor manners most of the time but I do need to be reminded not to get into beds or on the lounge (I currently sneak into my foster siblings beds !). I require an open door to the yard so that I can take myself out to the toilet . I require fencing around 5 foot plus - anything lower than that is too tempting for me as I am tall enough to put my paws up on it . I won’t suit rural fencing due to my height and prey drive . I’m a very soft natured girl but I have a big bark which means I’m a bit of a watch dog.
