Hi everyone!
My name is Pete, and I am the sweetest boy you could ever wish for. Having been abandoned in a council pound, I was rescued by OTC and brought interstate to safety. I was very very scared of everything, and wouldn't look anyone in the eye and wouldn't even eat in front of humans. I took a lot of comfort in my furry foster sibling, who was also a pound rescue. With her as my sidekick, I came out of my shell within days and began to get comfortable. If that's the progress made in 1 month with all those changes, can you imagine where I'd be with a permanent family of my very own?
At about 25kg and about 2yrs old, I am fully grown and believed to be a staffy x...maybe a bit of collie in there? Breed doesn't mean a lot though, all you need to know is I am a mixed breed ball of love! I like to nap on the couch. I sleep inside at night, and my house training is going pretty well. I live with a small human (2yr) and a medium human (10yr) and love them both, as well as my adult human carers! While the adult humans here are very responsible so don't leave the kids unsupervised with me, I have definitely made my human children my best buddies and like to follow them around. I live with a male dog twice my size, and have also lived with a female dog my size and I get along great with both of them and like to cuddle up on the couch with my furry friends. I was a bit nervous when I first met them each of them, but once I realised they didn't mean me any harm we quickly got busy doing zoomies in the yard!
I travel well in the car, and live behind 5ft fencing. At the vet I am a bit nervous (my prior owner probably never took me at all- I had no work done when I was rescued, so it's all been done with OTC!) but just sit quietly and let them examine me and do whatever is needed. I even let them take some blood (heartworm test, negative yay!) and even though I was nervous I just looked at my foster mum as I trust her, and she reassured me.
I am a dog who will make an incredibly loyal and loving pet. I have not yet been tested at dog parks, as a lot of the dogs there are very rowdy and so are the humans, and loud noises aren't my favourite...for now I prefer to go for walks at quiet locations with my family. With some practice, I would learn to walk on a leash well. My favourite game so far is playing with the other dogs, but I am learning to love toys as well. My ideal home will let me sleep inside at night, has a decent fence (5ft +) and has another dog for company (or will not leave me home alone for extended periods). I am fine if my owner works or needs to be away from home for a few hours a day, as long as there is another dog. I have not yet met cats, so would probably be best off not living with any.
I can't wait to meet my new family- could it be you?

PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ADOPTION APPLICATIONS FROM OUTSIDE Queensland. All dogs must be collected by the adopting families, from Toowoomba or Brisbane. Transport cannot be arranged by Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld. We appreciate your understanding.
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:

- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
