About Casper ~ 5 yr Maltese x ~ On Trial 27/8/20
** Casper requires a dog-savvy home so please read Casper’s profile in full before applying **
Introducing Casper, a special and funky little man who is a 5 year old Maltese x Shih Tzu. Casper is a mostly happy dog - his enthusiasm and lust for life is contagious. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a trip to the refrigerator or the beach Cass puts on a show with his dance moves (literally) to show you how exciting it all is to him!
Casper loves his walks and has very high energy levels so daily walks (preferably twice), games and stimulation are a must for this little chap (otherwise he has been known to throw his own party with some mouth made confetti!). He’s not a sit-around-the-house all day, lap-dog-only kind-of-guy. He prefers an active lifestyle with lots of adventure. He’ll bark at random stuff (or stuff that’s not even there) if you don’t take him out each day. He needs a yard to play in and won’t suit apartment living.
But all the fun that this spunky boy has must be earned. Casper isn’t comfortable sharing his cuddles and pillows with just anyone so he requires slow introductions that he will lead at his pace - with Casper it’s all about him getting to know you in his own time rather than by your schedule. Hands of strangers (and even his own family at times) scare the daylights out of him. If people (or their hands) come suddenly at him he can bite out of fear.
Due to Casper’s fear of hands and wariness with new people he must have a very experienced / dog-savvy and patient owner. Despite his cute as a button face and antics, he most certainly isn’t suitable for first time dog owners or homes with kids or lots of visitors. He doesn’t suit busy neighbourhoods, dog parks or socialising with lots of people. On the bright side once he has warmed up to you (like he has his foster family) you will have a dance partner, pillow sharing, long cuddle loving Casper to dance through life with you.
Casper is good with other dogs he knows but would be fine being an only dog and relishing in all the love! He liked to bark at his foster family's cats when they first met but now he is more curious and wants to sniff them. Cass can pull on lead when you first get started on a walk - he does require lead training as he barks a lot at other people and dogs - we believe this is also fear related.
If you have a quiet home with no kids and have a special place in your heart for the not-so-easy dogs then please email us at rescuepooch75@gmail.com .
Casper’s adoption fee is $500 and includes his desexing, microchipping and vaccination. Casper is in foster care near The Entrance (NSW Central Coast) and his new family will need to be willing to meet him a few times to ensure they are a perfect match. He is not available for interstate or long distance adoption.
Medical notes
Casper recently had surgery to remove a lump from his eye as it used to annoy him so much he scratched at it. During this time we discovered how much he hates visiting the vet! He needs to be muzzled during vet visits so his new family will need to invest time and energy into teaching him that vet trips can be positive and isn’t something to fear. Being a small dog that’s prone to lumps and bumps his new family will need to check for these and ensure they follow up to keep him in the best of health.
