About Fergus
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
Please read our 'Home Essentials' section and only apply for Fergus if you meet ALL of our criteria. We are expecting many enquiries for him and this will save us time due to us having limited resources.
NAME: Fergus
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the local pound
BREED: Terrier X. Terriers come in all shapes and sizes and were bred for different reasons but many were for farm work or ratting. Today they are mainly companions. Terriers are generally high energy, very bright and quick to learn but can be stubborn. They have strong personalities and a sense of fun and want to be included in everything you do. Don't take on a terrier unless you really do want a companion.
ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate, devoted, friendly, laidback, obedient and playful! He will joyfully lap up any human attention he can get! He was a little timid around males but this seems to have improved as he's become comfortable in his surroundings. Introductions to males will need to be done slowly, letting Fergus take the lead.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Loves to walk on the beach with his human and going for car rides. He is happy to walk on his lead and knows a few commands. Ongoing training will be a must for him to build his confidence and give him boundaries.
OTHER ANIMALS: He's generally friendly with other dogs and is happy to play with them. He has met a couple of cats and although curious is not aggressive towards them.
GENERAL INFO: Fergus is extremely lovable and loyal, and wants to be with you all the time - he can become anxious if left for long periods without human company and will chew and dig. When he's out walking he never goes too far and comes when called. He loves his cuddles and gets very excited when he sees his human. He has been introduced to older children and, although quite boisterous, is very good with them - children would need to be over 8 and dog savvy.
DISLIKES: Not being the centre of your world!
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* A home where someone is home for a good part of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take him with them when they go out
* Fergus needs an owner who will put in the time to give him the stability he needs. He needs someone who can guide him gently with positive reinforcement - schooled training is a must. At least 2 good walks a day are essential to keep him happy.
* Fergus needs a good sized yard with a lawn, lots of things for him to sniff and play with, and space to run around to burn off his energy.
* Fergus needs to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, and to be included as part of the family. He needs a home where he's showered with love, completely spoilt and sleeps inside at night.
* Fergus was clipped when he came into care due to his matted coat. He has a long and very thick coat and he will therefore need regular bathing and grooming to keep him clean and healthy.
* Any children living in his new home will need to be over 8 years old and dog-savvy.
If Fergus sounds like the boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
