About Arctic Polar Bear Raff
Arctic Polar Bear aka Raff is the gentleness and sweetest loving boy you could ever ask for
He is loving and kind and will be your most loyal family member
Raff can sit when asked , shake hands when asked , and walks pretty good on the lead
He is very social to both people and other dogs and loves attention and cuddles
Raff is currently living on a large property in training as a Live Stock Guardian dog
Food
Raff is currently being fed premium puppy dry food 2 meals a day
Royal canin dry puppy for large breeds
He has a huge appetite ??
I am able to take food off him with no concerns but he can get a little food aggressive with other dogs
This is improving , and I feel it was due to him being in a pound prior
Sleeping
Raff sleeps outside on a raised bed
He will bark at sounds during the night ( as he should) alerting potential predators not to enter
Dogs and Cats
Raff is very social and is currently living with 5 other dogs
He has seen the cats on the property and does bark at them from a disitance but no attempts to chase
Kids
Although not exposed to small children I feel Raff would be great with kids as he is not mouthy or nippy
Live Stock
Raff has been living side by side with mini ponies and shows no predatory instincts to chase
Raff has been poultry tested off lead and was excellent
I feel Raff with ongoing training will make a great protector of poultry
Obviously this will need to be ongoing training as he is not yet ready to leave out alone ( he is only 4 months old)
Entertainment
Raff currently is in a 2 acre fully fenced with chain mesh fencing area all day
He plays with his sister, chews sticks off the fallen trees and lays in the sun or on a cold day plays in the rain and the mud . Raff loves to be dirty lo;
Temperament
Raff has a beautiful soft and gentle nature
He is so very gentle when taking treats from your hand and will put his paw on your knee to show you he can shake hands lol
The home we are seeking
The Maremma is a large dog and at full growth weight ranges from 35-45 kilos
They are a LiveStock Guardian Dog
They are brilliant protectors but if not given a property to protect and a job to do things generally go very wrong
I am seeking a property home so please do not waste either of our times by applying if you don't have one !
The property must have secure fencing , I am so sick of seeing Mareemas on FB lost , roaming around due to not being inadequate fencing.
As a min standard ringlock please
Raff is not a digger out of areas so Im comfortable that this would be adequate
Live Stock Guardian dog experience is a preferred adopter but we will consider someone who has great breed knowledge if they are the right home'
Breed information
The Maremma is a friendly and well-balanced flock guardian. For several decades, it has also achieved success as a companion dog. Sober and dignified, this loyal, brave and determined dog makes an excellent guard dog without being a constant barker. It is correctly described as affectionate, but not dependent. Working lines that are put out to work will not easily follow your every command submissively, as they are bred and trained to be independent. You must display calm, but firm, confident and consistent leadership toward the dog in order to make it listen. It is very intelligent and its training requires mutual respect in handling and voice, and above all, consistency. It gets along with other dogs and pets and can be slightly reserved with strangers but not strongly so. People who are not welcome on your property will be stopped in their tracks. The Maremma is not as large as man
