Hey everyone! My name is Anjo (Arn-yo), meaning angel. It suits me! I was found wandering the street at only 12 weeks old. I was thin &covered in fleas, and nobody ever came for me. Thankfully, the people who found me, surrendered me to OTC so I could get the love and care I needed!
Since entering care, I have proven myself to be a loving, enthusiastic girl who thrives on positive interactions. My carers work fulltime hours and I just hang out in the yard with the other dog. I sleep outside on the patio at night, as my carers aren't allowed pets inside in their rental. So we don't know if I am housetrained or not- if you want me to be inside, you may need to train me with that. I sleep well at night and am happy to entertain myself if I do wake up; I have a great assortment of toys to choose from.
In the car, I get excited because whenever we go somewhere it is usually a really fun ride! So I get strapped in with a harness and seat belt buckle and by the end of the block I have usually remembered to sit quietly and wait. I love my wobble kong food dispenser, as well as chasing balls, rope toys, soft toys, and chewing on sticks. Mostly I will just wrestle with my foster brother all day and snooze in the sun. I absolutely love belly rubs, being cuddled in your lap, and anything to do with food! I am very food orientated. I have just begun going on walks, and am learning how to walk properly on leash.
I appear to be an arab x wolfhound mix... I have whiskers on my chin that are adorable! I am estimated to reach 35kg as an adult. There is something else you should know about me.... I was born deaf. Please don't let this deter you- I am just as trainable as any dog, but with the added bonus of not being scared of fireworks, the mower, or dogs yelling at me as we pass their home on walks! I am used to looking at my carer's hands for instructions. I am getting the hang of it quite well! I know how to come, sit, wait etc. I know you may have some further questions about this, so my rescue has collated some basic info for you to consider:
- My carers will show you my current hand signals, however there are so many more you can teach me! Most dogs can learn 40ish signs. The first one you should learn, is 'watch me'.
- It is recommended to leave a dim light going, either outside near my kennel, or inside if I sleep inside at night - so that I don't wake up scared and unable to find you.
- I should have a kennel outside, and if sleeping inside, you should crate train me. I must learn to love it and view the crate as my safe place. Do not let me sleep in your bed; this is a great way to encourage separation anxiety in any dog.
- I benefit from 'white noise' vibrations at night - try adding a stand up fan for me if you don't have a ceiling fan. The smooth, continuous vibration of the fan is like white noise to a deaf dog. This helps us sleep better as we can’t feel other vibrations of passing motorists, planes or trains.
- Until we get to know each other more, consider giving me a treat immediately, any time you need to wake me. Wake me by very gently touching my shoulder until I stir (always using the same spot to touch) and then giving me a treat the second I open my eyes. This teaches me not to be startled when woken by being touched in that spot.
- Because I can't hear you, off-leash time can be a bit more challenging than with other dogs. Try to only go to leashed areas, or invest in a high quality vibration collar (vibration, NOT shock) and train me to come when it is activated.
- My ideal home has a good fence and another (older, calm, friendly) dog to help me learn from, and help me grow up confident and calm.
So what do you think- could you love me? Apply to meet me now!

Adoption details
PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ADOPTION APPLICATIONS FROM OUTSIDE Queensland. All dogs must be collected by the adopting families, from Toowoomba or Brisbane. Transport cannot be arranged by Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld. We appreciate your understanding.
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
