Hi I’m Kiah, a petite (17kg) red heeler/kelpie mix. I’m only 14 months and have been through a bit in my young life.
Despite this, I love pretending I’m a lapdog, chasing flies and wrestling with my doggy foster brother. Being a working breed, I love to chase and nip my foster brother’s heels, I just can’t help myself, I am a heeler after all! I’m pretty people-oriented, I like sitting between your legs, on your feet or at least touching you. My foster mum thinks I’d be the ultimate companion due to my sweet nature.
I hate when my foster mum leaves the house, I would be next to her 24/7 if I could. Lucky I’ve got my foster brother around to keep me entertained while she’s at work. I wouldn’t mind living without a dog provided my human is home a lot and I can be an indoor dog.
I’m enjoying my new life in foster care. I’ve learnt lots of new things such as how to sit, shake (I’ll now give a paw at every opportunity in case I get some treats!), I wait for my meals, my recall is very good considering I have only had my name for a month, I love my crate and have just started playing with toys. I’ve also learnt to give what my foster mummy calls ‘puppy dog eyes’ when she ignores me. I find it most effective to communicate in little squeals and whines as it makes my foster mummy laugh and I usually get what I want.
When I arrived, there was a lot of new sights and smells, most were scary to begin with however I’ve feeling a lot more confident now. I still feel really unsure when I’m on the lead and I see/meet other dogs. I think I just need to learn they aren’t going to hurt me. I loooove playing with all types of dogs when I’ve been properly introduced though! I’ve started attending these cool social classes which are helping me learn how to calm down around new dogs while on lead. I want to keep going to these for a long time yet so will need a dedicated, experienced owner that’s willing to work with me and my insecurities. It is only up from here as I’m super smart!
So if you are around home a lot or have a doggy sibling to keep me company, are a dedicated, experienced dog owner and you are looking for a very loyal friend that will love you to the end of my days, please apply!
