About Rusty ~ 1yo German Shepherd x ~ On Trial 27/3/20
Introducing our special needs boy Rusty . Rusty is a 1 year old German Shepherd x Great Dane who came to us with a couple of his siblings.
Rusty is a very timid young boy who sits as far away from visitors as he can - he has soft sad eyes that watch your every movement from a safe distance. He is a truly gorgeous boy that you’d love to sooth and cuddle if only he knew you meant him no harm. Rusty has bonded with his foster carer so we know that given time and space he can build loving relationships with family members.
We are looking for a very loving single person or couple who are prepared to put in the hard work to grow his confidence and become Rusty’s new best friend. Rusty doesn’t get walked currently as leaving the property is far too overwhelming for him. He has a finely attuned flight response so he will bolt when frightened or startled. Once he’s learnt confidence in his new home, he’d benefit from daily walks to help him to get used to the world outside his yard.
Rusty will suit a quiet home with no children (they would be way too overwhelming) and a person or couple who have experience with timid dogs. He is good with other dogs so if you have a friendly and calm older dog who can be a role model for him then that will certainly assist his rehabilitation.
Due to his flight response Rusty will require solid and high fencing (at least 6 foot, no chain link wire) to keep him safely contained whilst he eases into his new surroundings. If he gets out he will be hard to get back so improvements may be required to your fencing to ensure that they are suitable to his needs prior to adoption. Rusty isn’t an active boy so as far as exercise is concerned he’s fairly low maintenance at this stage - this may change as his confidence grows. He may suit a smaller sized yard, and he will require a safe, quiet place to retire to when you have visitors. He needs to be allowed inside the house and to sleep inside.
Rusty is a very special boy who is looking for his place in the world. If you feel that you can offer him a safe and positive furever home then please email us at rescuepooch75@gmail.com . Rusty is in foster care near Medowie, NSW (north of Newcastle).
Rusty’s adoption fee is $450 and includes his desexing, vaccination, microchipping and flea and worm treatments. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption. More details of our Adoption Procedure on our website: https://tinyurl.com/adoptproc
