About Tyrone
Are you looking for a fun loving, adventurous, long legged doggy friend? Maybe Tyrone could be your boy!
Tyrone was born in care at the RSPCA and is still hanging out with his brothers and sisters but is now feeling ready to take on the world with a new family. Tyrone currently has some special needs and will need a committed owner to help him with treatment for these issues so that he can become the very best dog possible.
Tyrone's mum (and most likely Dad as well) carried the "blue merle" gene which can be seen in the merle coat pattern of most dogs with this genetic make up. While Tyrone may not have the typical merle pattern in his coat he may still be at risk of some of the genetic conditions associated with it. One common problem is an increased risk of early age development of cataracts. Tyrone's eyesight has been checked by a specialist and at this stage he has no obvious impairment, but he is at increased risk of cataract development at an early age.
To ensure Tyrone gets the best possible care, he will need to return to the RSPCA for a free recheck visit with the eye specialist at about 6 months of age and if he has signs of cataracts developing at this point surgery may be recommended. Cataract removal is a specialised surgery but he is lucky to have the support of an eye specialist to complete the surgery and support part of the cost, but there may be a cost to his new owner as well. Our vets are happy to discuss this in further detail if you would like more information.
Tyrone has also just commenced treatment for a fungal skin infection (ringworm) of which the costs will be covered by the RSPCA. If you decide to adopt Tyrone you will need to keep him separate from any animals or people who may be at risk of contracting this condition for the duration of the treatment (approximately until mid December).
Once his quarantine period has finished he will be bursting with excitement to get out and about and mingle with lots of people and other dogs. He is looking for a home with lots of space to stretch his long legs as he may be small now but he won't stay that way for long!
Training is a must to ensure he develops good dog manners as he grows up. As a large breed dog he will require moderate exercise and good socialisation with other animals.
If this young man has taken your eye and you would like to find out more or arrange a meeting, please speak to the Sydney Adoptions team!
