About James ~ Border Collie x Lab ~ On Trial 27/9/19
James is an 8yo Border Collie x Lab whose eager and enthusiastic nature belies his age. He acts more like a 1 year old pup rather than an 8 year old. He has many of the mannerisms typical of a Border Collie (the activity level, alertness and quirkiness) combined with a Labradors’ goofiness (and fondness for food). He is a people dog who loves his humans and has big chocolate eyes that will melt your heart.
James came to us as an unclaimed stray from the pound. He is an active boy who loves human company, so pound life didn’t suit him at all. He loves being the centre of attention so he would best suit a home with an attentive mid-aged single or couple or a family experienced with dogs.
James is a smart boy who is eager to please - like many men he can also choose not to listen as well. James proves that old dogs can learn new tricks and he is ready to learn. He will keep his adoring new family on their toes too!
James has learnt some great indoor manners since being in foster care. He is well behaved (mostly) and will remain on his inside bed (sometimes), especially if there is a tasty treat on offer. He has a Labrador's passion for food, so reward-based treat training is the way to this gentleman’s heart (stomach).
James is good with other dogs. He is so happy to get to the dog park that he barks when he gets there to let everyone know that he has arrived! He would love a new family experienced with eager dogs who can teach him to dial down his "Look-at-me!-I’m-out-having-fun!" excitement a few notches.
James currently he lives with two other canines. He gets bossed around a bit by his smallest fur sibling (a Cavalier) and he’s fine with that. Although he’s good with other dogs he’s more of a person-dog. He prefers to spend his time being a human with you rather than his doggy pals. By the way, he isn’t a good match with cats, chickens or guinea pig. He would likely give them heart attacks trying to play with them.
One of James’ other favourite past-times (apart from being your shadow) is food. He loves his treats. He needs more training to teach him to take treats gently, so we suggest a home without young children.
James responds to "Sit", "Shake" and "Drop". He needs to practice "Stay" as life is too exciting to stay in one place too long. He is learning come when called and is quite good once he knows you.
James would be a great fit for semi-retirees or empty-nesters whose kids have flown the coop - a single person or couple who are keen to direct their attention and affection onto their newly adopted fur-child. He may also be a good match for a family with older teenage kids who are experienced with medium or large dogs.
For more information on this big, bundle of love and goofiness that is James, please email rescuepooch75@gmail.com. James is in foster care near Erina, NSW 2250 (Central Coast).
James’ adoption fee is $250 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
