On Hold
About Merlin - Located in Moonee Ponds
Merlin is a very social and active cat, fond of energetic games such as chasing and rough play. He likes to be close to the humans he trusts, and will often watch what you are doing. He can become anxious and appears more settled when he has a reasonably consistent routine.
Merlin loves to be outside but needs supervised time outside as he does not get on well with other cats. When Merlin has had plenty of enrichment and play time, he can be quite affectionate and will settle down on a lap or wedge himself between two people, always wanting to be close by!
Merlin brings many "laugh out loud moments" as he continues to settle and learn what is acceptable. Patience, understanding and energy is needed for him to thrive!
Merlin has had a hip joint amputation which requires medication (see Medical Notes).
Before applying to meet one of our cats, please ensure that you:
- have the agreement of all members of the household to adopt a Cat,
- have your landlords permission to keep a pet. More information on what to do is available at https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/housing/renting/applying-for-a-rental-property-or-room/pets-and-renting
- you have all the necessary bits and pieces to welcome your new family member, starting with a cat carrier to bring them home, a litter tray, litter, food and bowls as well as a bed, toys and scratchers, and
- you are ready to welcome them home NOW. We are unable to hold a cat for you if you are not ready to adopt.
IMPORTANT NOTE - COVID19 PRACTICES
Due to the current lockdown in Melbourne we once again need to do things a little differently!
Once you have applied for a cat our foster carer will contact you by telephone.
If at the end of this discussion you would like to progress we will then arrange an online meet n greet with the carer and cat.
If you think this cat might be your PURRFECT match we will be utilising our premises at Neko HQ in Preston for the final meet n greet and if agreed adoption.
Our carers are unable to have a guest in their homes.
We ask that only one person from the family attend, and that all COVID safe practices are followed to ensure your health and that of our volunteers as well as the general community.
We thank you for your patience throughout this process.

Merlin has also had his hip joint amputated. As a result, he is on cartrophen injections and osteosupport for life to help slow the onset in of arthritis. Merlin will need regular vet check ups to assess if the medications are helping to slow the onset of arthritis.
Merlin gets Urinary Tract Infections if he gets stressed, so he needs to be on a special urinary specific diet for this.
No other known health issues.
Maneki Neko Cat Rescue would like to help ensure you and your new companion/s have a long and happy life together. Please be advised that if you should find that you are not a purrfect match, or if you need to rehome your new pet at any stage of its life, Maneki Neko Cat Rescue will take the cat back into care and find a new home.
Maneki Neko Cat Rescue provides a 7 day health warranty on all adoptions. Although all our cats and kittens are health checked prior to adoption, sometimes the stress of a new environment can upset their immune system.
