About Admiral Pee Wee The Third
*ON TRIAL* Pee Wee the precious Pug is a unique boy and it has taken us some time to work him out. Initially we had him pegged as someone who needed a lot of daily exercise and stimulation to be happy, because he was a fit dog, particularly for one of his breeding.
However, this boy is special and deals with life in a different way to many of his canine peers. Not unlike those on the autism spectrum, Pee Wee struggles to cope with over-stimulation.
The rush and chaos of playing dogs sends him into a stressed-out frenzy of heel nipping and other red-zone behaviour.
Likewise children, with their flailing arms, high pitched voices, erratic movements and unpredictability send him in to a state of hyperactivity from which he has difficulty recovering.
When he first came, even a simple touch look would send him over the edge. We took this as simple over-excitement from a dog who wanted active engagement. However, we do not believe that Pee Wee enjoys these states of hyper-arousal.
He is much better with patting now. Slow, gentle strokes are best.
Despite all this, Pee Wee is one of the most loyal dogs we have encountered. He would never run away from his special people when off-leash and is constantly sitting at your feet.
Pee Wee is a quirky and endearing kid and boy have we come to love him, just as he, his heart brimming with adoration for his family, has come to love us. But this is not his ideal environment and he needs to find a safe place with someone who will commit to him for the rest of his days.
He would do best in a quiet and consistent environment with no children and no other dogs. Apartments are not ideal as he takes a while to toilet when on-lead. He is however, very well toilet trained in the house and will let you know when he wants to go out to the yard to eliminate.
When dogs with special needs come into this world, it can be difficult for them to find the place where they belong. But we believe there is a place for everyone in this world. There is a reason we were put in this earth and a big part of that reason is love.
Pee Wee has not been dealt a good hand, but love is something he has plenty to give. Now he just needs someone to bestow that upon. Someone who will reciprocate that love and cherish him for the precious boy he is.
He is currently on a daily anti-depressant to help with his anxiety. This can be cheaply obtained from the chemist with a script. He may be able to be weaned off this once he settles into his new home, or he may be better to remain on this medication - this will be a case of trial.
Do you have a quiet home in which Pee Wee will be included as part of your daily life? A serene environment where he can relax and be with you, finally enjoying life as part of a loving unit, secure in his day-to-day routine, where he can focus on his favourite thing: you.
If you think you have what it takes to connect to this boy and receive all he has to give in return, please see the application instructions below. Pee Wee is waiting for you, with a comical stare, a furrowed Puggy brow and so much hope for the future.
Medical notes
Pee Wee is as fit as a fiddle. However, owing to his past, he suffers from anxiety during periods of over excitement and is prone to the occasional shadow chasing. For this reason he doesn’t cope well around children. He is currently on anti-depressant medication and is showing great improvement. He has one tablet a day on his food and it is an inexpensive medication that can be obtained with a script from the chemist.

Adoption details
Please tell us about yourself using the orange ‘enquire about this pet’ button below. We do not operate on a first-in-best-dressed basis. Instead, our aim is to find the most suitable forever home for the animals in our care.
Your application should include details about who lives at your home, both humans and animals and what their daily schedules and living arrangements are like. It should include details about your previous dogs and a thorough break down of the house rules you will have for this pet as well as what their typical day will look like.
Please tell us what your dog’s sleeping arrangements will be as well as what you plan to do with your dog if you go away on holidays.
Please provide AS MUCH detail as possible to increase your chances of a successful application.
It may take up to four weeks to process the applications. Please try to be patient. All applicants will receive a response - but it won’t be an immediate one.
If your application seems promising you will be contacted for a telephone interview. Should this be successful you will be invited to a meet and greet and asked to send photos of your property.
Should the meet and greet end favourably, you may pay the adoption fee, sign the paperwork and take the pet on a two week trial during which time you will be asked to provide regular updates.
During this trial period the pet remains the property of Onyx Rescue and adoption will only be finalised following a successful trial.

AN OPEN LETTER TO APPLICANTS:
We hate to disappoint people. It’s something that really upsets us, but unfortunately it comes with the territory of what we do. So we want to take the time to explain something.
When we take on a dog, we make a commitment both to that dog and the former owners of that dog to find this fur-kid their perfect forever home. Our primary criterion in order to achieve this is whether that home is a good match for that dog. Each dog can have vastly different needs from the next and every home is different.
Sometimes well-intentioned people put their friends in touch with us, sometimes we are approached by friends or even family in relation to a particular dog. However, we have made a promise not to compromise on our commitment and we have to turn them down.
This isn’t a reflection of their dog ownership skills, nor how we feel about them personally. Our decision will always come down to whether we believe that they are a match. Not just any match - the best match.
Sometimes we are lucky to have several interested parties who would be a good match and it can be difficult to choose between them. Our ultimate decision will, however, not be influenced by our relationship with this potential adopter, be it secondary or primary, nor the number of times they have applied and missed out previously, nor whether they applied first, nor the number of times or methods used to contact us about a particular pet, but whether or not they are the BEST match available.
So if you know someone who is interested in any of the dogs at Onyx Rescue, or you are interested in one yourself, please go through the proper channels and send your application through Petrescue. Please do not take offence if you or your friends are not chosen - this only means that there was someone who was a better match. Not a better person, not a better dog owner, but a better match.
We believe there is a home for every dog and a dog for every home, so if you’ve not been chosen previously please do not give up applying - the next one may be your perfect dog.
Thank-you to everyone who supports what we do here - it means the world to us and the beautiful fur-kids seeking homes.
