About Dolly
Hellooooooooo Dolly!! We would love to introduce you to the gorgeous, bubbly Dolly Pardon ‘I didn’t hear you’. Dolly is a very special girl who doesn’t let her deafness stand in the way of ANYTHING – in fact, she doesn’t know she’s deaf so shhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Dolly is a Catahoula, they are highly intelligent, hard working and energetic ‐ they are not suited to normal suburban lives; they need stimulation and lots of it! A unique breed with a fascinating heritage as herding, driving and tracking dogs with a strong working ability who thrive in a home where their brains and energy are put to good use. Catahoulas learn quickly, and love to play. They are companion dogs that do poorly in isolation. They do best with plenty of human companionship: they are often called ‘Velcro dogs’ for their strong desire to always be near their owners and for their tendency to form intense, devoted bonds with their family. They are determined and brave but if not kept occupied will get into mischief. When their exercise and leadership needs are met, Catahoulas are loving, calm and dedicated companions.
Dolly is a delightful, confident, snuggly girl who is showing all of the positive characteristics of her breed. She bounces out of bed in the morning and attacks the day with nothing but pure happiness. Dolly has lovely long legs and will mature to be a girl of medium‐large height and build. Her leopard print colouring and ‘cracked glass’ eyes are truly striking. Dolly’s deafness doesn’t hinder her in any way, shape or form. She is a happy, healthy, wiggly puppy. Communication with Dolly is via hand signals, facial expression and touch. Dolly knows all of her basic hand signals. She is toilet trained, comes on command, sits, stays and waits. She knows and responds with happiness to the signs for ‘good girl’ and ‘love you’. Her new family will need to be committed to continuing her training so she continues to learn and thrive. True to her breed, Dolly has an excellent sense of smell and her nose is always ON and ready to go – she would excel in tracking with the right training if this is something you have an interest in.
Dolly LOVES other dogs and will happily play with her K9 companions or occupy herself with her toys, kongs or other mentally stimulating activities in between tasks and training. She is a truly happy little soul who is highly adaptable and intelligent. She spends her days being a wonderful offsider to her Foster Ma & Pa and interacts beautifully with cats, ducks, ducklings, chickens, geese, horses, alpacas and her three K9 foster brothers, and is exceptionally well behaved around all farm animals and livestock. She naturally comes back at regular intervals and will always keep you in her line of sight to ensure she is able to see any commands given to her. She enjoys bush walks, trips to the beach, accompanying her people in all of their daily tasks and cuddling up to everyone in her household. She is cheeky, brave, outgoing, loyal and confident, a very special girl looking for a very special home to call her own.
DOLLYS ADOPTION CRITERIA
• A forever family that will include her as a loved family member and provide her with both the physical and mental enrichment she craves. This includes being both an inside and outside dog in a home where she will be welcome to snuggle on the couch ‐ she will mostly want to be where you are. Sleeping inside at night is a non-negotiable.
• Dolly is naturally an active dog who needs room to move. She is looking to be a family member and companion on a farm/acreage/semi-rural/hobby‐farm.
• Dolly loves the company of dogs and enjoys being part of a pack and the safety and confidence it brings; her new home must have another doggy family member.
• Part-time workers only – Dolly needs the regular companionship of her people. While she is happy to occupy herself for a few hours at a time, long periods on her own is not desirable.
• Commitment to training
