Meet Liana
“The dog who doesn’t like to go for a walk”
Liana has been a long-term resident in foster care as she’s really nervous around dogs she doesn’t know. As a result Liana has spent the last eight months at boarding school with her foster mum learning how to trust and listen and now she has lots and lots of doggy friends she plays with.
However, Liana doesn’t do well if walked in suburban streets when she comes across a new dog, she hasn’t met before and will bark and scream in fear upon approach. She displayed this behaviour with her first foster mum and then again when she went to a trail adoption resulting in her returning to care.
Please note:
She has not displayed this behaviour with her current foster mum but she is a professional trainer and their bond is strong and built on leadership and trust.
Liana is cat friendly, loves people, and is impeccably well-behaved inside the house. She will make somebody a fabulous pet, provided they understand she doesn't like to go for daily walks down the street and prefers to just hang out at home with her person. For exercise she enjoys running in a secure yard and taking time to wander and sniff all the smells or bake in the sun. Her new person/people need to understand that going for a walk is not her favourite thing to do or be prepared to do some training with her if they wish to help her overcome this.
Liana sleeps all night quietly in her crate, has learnt not to jump up when overexcited and instead bows, talks and smiles with excitement when you see her first thing in the morning.
She loves cats and would happily live alongside a cat buddy and her obedience is really good after spending so much time at boarding school. Currently she lives with a bull terrier a pointer and a kelpie and two cats and they all get along really well. Next door, there’s a German Shepherd and Labrador and she loves a run with them each day as well.
Liana finds confidence with well-behaved dogs that understand how to appropriately play with other dogs and would struggle if put in situations where there are untrained poorly socialised “in your face dogs friendly dogs”, allowed to rush at her.
I cannot put into words just how much of a gem this dog is, she is sooooo easy to live with and everyone who meets her loves her! She just needs someone to take the time to get to know her and understand she is “the dog who doesn’t like to go for walks”.
