Rescue Group
The GREYHOUND ADOPTION PROGRAM is a non profit organization created by greyhound lovers dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds whose racing careers have ended. GAP’s purpose is to ensure that retired greyhounds are able to find loving nurturing families once they have finished racing. After all, greyhounds need a home to go to at the end of the race.
Through a more positive image, GAP hopes to increase the public's desire to care for these pets after their racing careers have finished.
All GAP greyhounds are Temperament Tested, Sterilized, C5 Vaccinated, wormed, and dental. GAPSA Greyhounds come with a lead, collar, warm winter jacket and plenty of support from GAP. It is our hope that we can improve the image of these beautiful dogs and find loving homes that will bring happiness to both owners and pets.

Adoption Process
When adopting a new pet, we all know it can be an exciting time!
The first thing you will need to do is place an application with GAPSA.
Once the application is received, a GAPSA team member will ring you in regards to your application and go over any questions you may have about adopting a greyhound.
Your application then goes through a matching process. We match each applicant to one of the suitable greyhounds that are waiting for a home. Matching is based on what the applicant is looking for in a pet and what the greyhound needs in a family home.
If a match is available, then a GAPSA team member will ring you with details of the particular dog.
All GAP greyhounds are in foster care around the SA /Adelaide area. you will be given the details of the foster home in which you may contact to speak with them about the dog and arrange an in-home visit. this allows you to see the greyhound in its natural environment.
If you are happy with the dog after the visit, you are then asked to ring the GAPSA Team with your decision within 3 days of the initial visit.
We will then arrange an appointment at the GAP office to complete the adoption.
We will go over the important information regarding the care and adoption of your greyhound and assist you with any questions or concerns.
After your adoption appointment is finalized, you may then arrange with the foster carer when you are available to collect your new pet and take it home!
Each adoption has a 4 week trial period to assess how the greyhound is going in your home. If the greyhound that has been chosen for you is not working out, or you wish to return the greyhound for what ever reason, GAPSA will happily take the dog back into foster care.
After returning the greyhound, you have the option to look at another suitable dog or a portion of the adoption fee will be refunded upon request. (if returned within 4 weeks)
