Finding foster carers and volunteers for rescue
Increasing the life-saving capacity of rescue groups, shelters and pounds through volunteers
We understand how vital regular and reliable volunteer support is to rescue operations of all sizes. By leveraging our online reach, as well as corporate partnerships and sponsorships, we’re able to spread the word to millions of Australians - encouraging them to consider fostering or volunteering to help save lives in their community.
How we help to find foster carers
Not everyone knows what foster care is, and not many people realise how easy it is to become a volunteer foster carer. So we’re constantly putting the word out online, and often through other media, to help raise awareness of this amazing way to help save lives.
And, of course, we have Petrescue.com.au - Australia’s largest searchable database of pets that’s free to access for all volunteer foster carers. Our member rescue groups, shelters and pounds are also able to advertise for foster carers for free by simply selecting the option to add ‘Foster Care Needed’ to a pet’s listing.
At any one time, we have around 1,000 pets listed for foster care. Check out the latest foster listings here.
Photographers, writers and other volunteers
We’re always keen to help our member rescue groups, shelter and pound members build good relationships with local volunteer photographers, writers and other pet-lovers in their community with skills and time to spare. But we know they’re not always easy to find.
Free volunteer recruitment advice and assistance is available to all PetRescue members via our members helpdesk at members@petrescue.org.au, where they can shout out for help with finding local volunteer resources, from foster carers and animal transport to general admin support, pet profile writers, or professional photographers.
We also encourage the pet-loving public to put their hand up and help homeless pets in their community. To search for a rescue group, shelter or pound near you, you can use our Rescue Directory to find contact details. Search by state to narrow down the results.
Alternatively, email us at info@petrescue.org.au with details of your location and the type of volunteer support/skills you’re able to offer.
Give monthly to help make Australia a safe place for all pets.
