About Hazel
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR PETS IN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Hazel
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance with her 9 siblings as an owner surrender.
BREED: Labrador x Mastiff Mix
Breed Traits:
Labradors are bred as a companion and working (gun) dog - they are known as affectionate and loyal companions. Their good nature means they are friendly to family, children, other dogs and strangers and don't like being left alone for long periods. They are intelligent and easy to train - they love to please - they can be mouthy but have a low prey drive towards other species. They do require a good amount of exercise and brain stimulation. If not exercised sufficiently and food monitored, they can become obese.
Mastiffs were originally bred for guarding; this breed is sensitive and loving with family but can be standoffish with strangers. They are independent thinkers so training and socialisation to people, places and other dogs should start young. Best as an inside dog he needs to be protected from overheating. They have low to medium energy requirements. He is a drooler and definitely not for novice owners.
********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Hazel is the first to escape her pen but always takes herself back! is affectionate, friendly, independent, active, sweet and playful.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Hazel loves to chew her toys and enjoys wrestling with her siblings. She is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where she plays for a while then settles down with her siblings or person for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Hazel has a very pretty, expressive face as well as a lovely personality.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy she will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introduction. She could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction. There are free range chickens at her foster home, and she is comfortable around them.
GENERAL INFO: Hazel will bark to get attention and will need training for pretty much everything being so young. Housetraining is underway but she still has some way to go to master it. Expect accidents while she's settling into her new home and routine! She'll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where she can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from her new owner. We expect these pups to be medium sized (or a bit bigger) when fully grown - but there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Hazel:
** an active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day, essential in the first six months after adoption
** a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as she needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized, well fenced garden where she can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence
** daily walks/playtime to keep her happy and healthy
Hazel will have bursts of energy while a pup and we envisage will be medium energy as an adult dog.
Hazel could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 years of age who will play and interact with her appropriately but know when to give her space.
If Hazel sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
