Foxie

Foxie is a two year old German Shepherd who found his way to a Sydney Shelter. He is slightly deaf so is learning hand signals. He can hear a clicker and high pitched sounds.

The current foster carer is no longer able to adopt due to personal circumstances but has invested generous time ensuring Foxie is adaptable to a wide range of environments and travels well in cars. Foxie loves car rides

Foxie is an absolute character, he is extremely smart, cheeky at times and sensitive. As a young dog, Foxie can be a smoocher one minute and the next running around chasing after a ball or playing with another dog. Foxie did not have the easiest start in life when the rangers seized him at approximately five months of age. Foxie was placed in a shelter where he was not provided with any boundaries, training or attention and luckily for him he was noticed by German Shepherd Rescue New South Wales.

Our foster carer received Foxie at approximately eight months of age and since then, with training, structure, enrichment activities, good nutrition and attention, Foxie has come along way. He has built close bonds with the dogs and humans around him and gets time alone where he is able to keep himself entertained.

Foxie has received crate training, out door run training, obedience training with hand signals (it is suspected that he does not have complete hearing), impulse control training, socialisation and is an inside and outside dog.

Foxie can be nervous when he experiences something new, but with encouragement and appropriately timed rewards his nerves subside and his curiosity takes over. He is still a young dog at one year of age and although he has been introduced to other people, children, animals and environments the upmost care has been taken so that each experience is set up in the dog’s favour so that the experience provides a positive learning outcome.

Foxie will require a special home that will continue to invest time into his training, provide him with a quality diet, exercise, grooming and environmental enrichment that keeps him mentally stimulated. Also due to his lack of hearing he would be great at Nose Works or tracking.

We would recommend Foxie's new family continue with his socialisation to ensure he continues to grow into a self assured and calm dog. They will also need patience with him but he is a quick learner and loves to be around people.

We are looking for a committed owner who will ensure Foxie becomes an integral member of the family. Previous experience with this breed or large breed dogs is a must.

Foxie is an inside and outside dog.

If you live in Victoria, you can be considered, however you will need to be able to drive with your family and any dogs to meet Foxie. If for any reason he doesn't fit your family you will be responsible for bringing him back to Sydney or helping us to rehome from your home.
