About Millie Aylesbury
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html
Millie is a brave and loving girl, who has been working with her carer to overcome quite a few challenges. She is looking for experienced dog people, who will continue to support her to be her best self. This gorgeous pup is gregarious and affectionate with her people. Once Millie gets to know you she is very affectionate and partial to a belly rub and she loves her morning head massages. She has been tested with cats and we believe she would be fine with a dog-savvy cat or two.
Initially presenting with separation anxiety, Millie has now shown she can be left happily inside for several hours while her person is out. Like all shorter-nosed pups, Millie needs indoor access at all times and climate control to support her health. Mille also occasionally suffers with a reverse sneeze which is easily managed.
She is housetrained and sleeps well through the night in her crate in her carer’s bedroom.
Millie loves her daily adventures out into the world, driving to various locations with Millie travelling in a covered crate in the car. The safety of the crate means she isn’t reactive to people and vehicles passing very close to us as we travel. She does not suffer from motion sickness but will need a cool mat plus air-conditioning in the car during the hotter months if traveling any distance.
Millie loves access to the garden so she can explore and feel the grass beneath her paws and enjoy some sun and fun occasionally playing with a ball or two. We empathise with this as we know she came from a terrible abusive puppy farm and then was living in a one bedroom apartment. So her forays on the outside are important to her well being. She is a funny girl, who brings her carer a lot of love and laughs.
Because of her background, she can be quite reactive to unexpected sounds and people around the house, and to outdoor light and action if visible to her. While she has had some experience being with other dogs on a routine basis, Millie is not highly sociable with canine pals and is happier to do her own thing with her people.
Millie will need to be an only dog in her forever home. She is looking for a quiet life with solid routines, which will both help her build confidence and know what is expected, while minimising the situations that trigger her anxiety. Semi-rural living or a quiet environment would suit this loving little girl. Millie is well on her way to learning how to walk on a loose lead and to stay connected to her person when in the outside world. She is also readily accepting regular visitors to the house. Once you have won Millie’s trust she will be your devoted companion.
Millie is looking for adopters who have experience supporting dogs like her who lack confidence and experience. She is quite open to feline companionship, subject to appropriate introductions. Millie understands human routines and would be okay if her people need to be out for some of each day, provided her routines are supported and she is left inside when home alone. Millie will do best in a calm adult-only home.
There are huge mutual benefits in supporting dogs like Millie to grow. If you think you might be Millie’s support team, she would love to meet you.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
