About Rusty
Hi, my name is Rusty and I'm ready to share my love with my new family!
Although I can be a little shy around men to start off with, I really love people and make friends with everyone very quickly (especially if treats are involved). When I see any of the rescue volunteers I always call out with an adorable howl to say Good Morning, complete with tail wags and a bounce or two.
I love walks and have good leash manners but sometimes I get a little excited. Loud environments make me a little worried, so quiet bush walks are my favourite thing to do.
My love for people also includes other dogs! I would love a medium/large breed female canine friend and with slow introductions, a male dog might also be great!
I am happy to live with older kids (10+) as although I may be timid to start off with, I can be a little boisterous when I play and wouldn't want to accidentally bowl over any little ones with my excited energy.
I am a super clever boy and love to learn new things. I already know sit and I respond to my name. Treats are my favourite thing so I am eager to learn anything you want to teach me! I may need some help learning how to ride in a car and if I am going to sleep inside, some house training will be super helpful.
I would love it if my new home had a big backyard for me as I am still quite young and active. While I know and respond to my name, I am not suitable to go to a dog park or be off leash outside of my yard.
Rusty is not suitable to live in a home with cats, birds, rabbits or small animals.
FENCING REQUIREMENTS
You will need ONE OR MORE of the follow BEFORE an adoption trial for a dingo can begin.
- Minimum 2.2M high colour-bond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line.
- Mesh, concrete or similar around the base of the fence may also be required to prevent digging
Alternatively if you live in a rural area without yard fencing:
-A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 70cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m)
Some manufacturers of pre-made dog enclosures include:

Another option is using construction fencing style panels from Bunnings or welded mesh sheets and posts.
If you ever need advice on dingo proof fencing, please contact Sydney Dingo Rescue as we are here to help.
Animal rescue is considered essential. SFDR can still come to you for meet and greets, yard checks and animal adoptions. We have volunteers in Canberra and New South Wales and can come to you even if you we are not in your local government area. Distance is not an issue when we are looking for the perfect homes for our dingoes. Please note we have COVID safety measures in place.
Adoption details
Please note at this time pending legal advice we are unable to offer fox kit adoption to private owners.
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Goulburn shelter or their foster carers' home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We are happy to meet new prospective owners anywhere in NSW or the ACT.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
