About Haiku
HAIKU
Siberian Husky
Male (D)
Born - 5 November 2020
Located - Dundas Valley, NSW
Interstate Adoption - Meet First
There is lots to be said about a dog who is not afraid to look you in the eye. Well, lots of said but in my case it's quite simple.
I. Am. Judging. You.
There is no malicious intent - I'm just taking your measure, satisfying myself that you are a person of trust. Once you're in, you may as well be named Flynn. it's also best that you have a sense of humour for my Sideshow Bob antics make up my very own comedy show.
Speaking of support acts - we technically weren't but go with me - I do need at least one other canine friend within the home. Size, age or gender is a free for all but they must be friendly, playful and come with a faulty off-switch. Submissive to all other dogs I'm a firm favourite at the local dog park, to boot!
Before you start to think I'm all fool no substance, you'll be pleased to note that I come to you with "Sit", "Stay", "Leave It/No/Ah", "Come" and have exceptional manners on lead. I'll even keep checking in and sneak in a kiss or ten along the way.
Well there is a bit of a caveat - when it's just me and you I'm a dream, if my foster siblings are along for the ride I pull in order to keep up with the asshats who won't slow down for me. How rude!
Absolutely wonderful with humans I call friend I do like to jump up to say hello followed up with a slobbery kiss of greeting. Oh yeah, I also like to jump up if I see you with food in your hands, for I firmly believe that it should really be making it's way to my tummy, not yours. So... as I need you for stability and perhaps with more than a touch of not realising my own strength, it's best any kids within the home be of the older and stable variety.
Unlike most of my arctic brethren I use my bark to protect my humans from any naughty shenanigans, the new wheelbarrow in the yard and birds flying overhead. They're welcome.
Aside from that I'm a pleasure whether inside the home or out in my backyard, making no escape attempts and not interested in any landscaping or escaping.
Before I forget I also have a bit of a peculiar fascination with fireworks and you must commit to taking me to watch them whenever they're being let off in the hood.
With the goofy side comes the more serious side. I'd do best within an arctic experienced home for it's very easy to misunderstand me. But deep down I'm no different than any other dog - I want to trust, be loved and give love.
Oh yeah, I also only have three legs. Ask me about it, sometime?

Medical notes
Haiku came to us requiring a leg amputation. Surgery was extremely successful and he has adjusted remarkably well. We've spent time building up his core muscles and do not envisage any issues for the foreseeable future. At a minimum it's best he be kept leaner than required for his frame, forced to rest (he's still a pup but the bonus is he is crate trained!) and given joint supplements and Omega 3's to promote his ongoing health. Ideally if you can take him swimming fairly regularly, or even hydrotherapy, this will prolong the onset of arthritis in the future.
