About Charley
Charley is an 18 month old black kelpie with lots of energy and he is such a good boy.
Charley is very smart and listens to what you’re asking of him and can problem solve. He LOVES chasing birds and may have some selective deafness when is chase mode! Catching flies is also fun, as well as water coming out of the hose, lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners, but he is very easily corrected. He is a very quick learner, so could be suited to agility training or herding training. Charley loves his rope toys.
He really enjoys his walks and will wait in a perfect sit at the gate when it is his turn, and walks well on the lead but does pull a little. He would happily go for more walks but currently only gets one a day and some play time. If he has to be left behind he takes himself inside to his mat or in his crate as he feels safe there. So it is crucial that Charley’s family let him sleep inside as he wants to be part of the family. If you want a garden gnome to just be put outside Charley is not for you
He sleeps all night very quietly on his mat until you are awake, and then will come to your bedside and say good morning wiggling his bottom and if allowed jumps up on the bed for a quick cuddle.
He is currently in foster care with a shift worker, and 3 resident dogs, 2 older female dogs and a 5 year old male, and is very respectful of them all, and just fits in. He loves playing and will drop toys near them enticing them to play. When he plays with other dogs his prey drive (chasing the birds) lessens and he mellows and is happy to just play. Occasionally he needs help finding his “off switch” but once inside is happy to just go to bed, or lie at your feet watching TV with his paw on your foot. He loves being with his human and will often just lean into your legs. Charley loves belly rubs and cuddles.
At meal times he sits in his crate and waits patiently even though he is drooling. Bless him! He is currently being fed an all raw diet and is very gentle taking treats and sits beautifully.
Charley needs people or a family who will include him into their daily routine. If you are working in the study he might lay out in the hall just to know you’re there. If you can give him what he needs you will be rewarded with such a good boy who is toilet trained, sleeps all night, will love a cuddle but not needy, and is respectful of other dogs and people. He needs a secure yard and would be best suited to a calm but active family who can commit to his exercise needs, who has another energetic dog to play with him, and will include him in their adventures and fun. (Children over 12 would ok.)
