About Gaia - Dingo
Hi my name is Gaia, I came to the rescue after some kind people found me scavenging for food on my own covered in ticks and very unwell. The humans at the sanctuary think my parents might have been killed by hunters or poison leaving me on my own at just 6 weeks old.
I'm cheeky and inquisitive and I just love attention and cuddles from humans I know, and I’m always getting snuggles from the live-in-volunteers at the sanctuary. My favourite is when they take me out for a walk, I love to adventure around the sanctuary and say hello to the other dingoes.
Gaia has been hand-raised from a young age at our sanctuary with lots of human contact and socializing, she is confident and affectionate with people she knows, and tail wags to greet you. She is one of our more confident rescue puppies, though like all dingoes she is shy at first with strangers or in noisy, busy environments.
Since Gaia can't be returned to the wild, she is on the hunt for a family who can patiently continue puppy training with her, and introduce her to life in a human home.
Gaia loves to play with the other pups and adult dingoes. She will be 18-20kg when fully grown and needs a home with a doggy or dingo friend of a similar size or bigger to play with and help build her confidence (no dogs under 10kg). Her new home must have an existing dog or dingo.
Gaia would be fine in a home with kids 5+ who are respectful and good with animals, with lots of supervision.
Gaia has very good manners and is picking up toilet training very quickly. At the moment she is learning with puppy pads.
She is also learning to walk on a lead and can’t wait for her family to carry on her training with her. Dingoes respond well to positive reinforcement training and Arty is very intelligent, food motivated and eager to learn. Being a dingo however she is not suitable to be let off leash except in a securely fenced area and she is unlikely to ever learn reliable recall (come when called) off the leash.
Like all dingoes, Gaia is a good climber and digger! This means she will need secure fencing and will require one of the following: 2.2m color bond fencing OR a dog enclosure OR a secure 1.8-meter fence with top angling or flat-top extensions (http://www.dog-blog-world.com/dog-fence/). For more information on fencing check out our website www.sydneydingorescue.com.au
Gaia cannot live with cats, birds, livestock, or pocket pets like rabbits or mice unless they can be kept entirely separated.
Gaia is not suitable to live in an apartment.
