About Maggie
Meet Maggie. 3yo, desexed female Maltese Shih Tzu. Approx. 6 kilos.
While we were told she had separation anxiety and barking issues, while in care we haven't seen this, and we think it's due to various outings and walks, on and off lead, each day and the company of the other dogs she is currently living with. Her carer is home most of the time for human company too.
However, to ensure she continues in the positive vein we are seeking a SINGLE LEVEL home (see medical notes) with someone home more than not.
She also had a few eating issues. With 3 smaller meals a day this has helped with these. However, Maggie does have significant food aggression tendencies for high value foods, and will need someone committed to ongoing training with this to set her up for a stress free life.
Maggie is not fully toilet trained inside although is getting better and better every day. She will still need help and patience with this in her new home. She is crate trained and does sleep through the nights with no (or very rare) toileting.
Maggie has really blossomed in her time in care but although she lives with dogs, does not like dogs rushing up to her, or even if larger passing to close while out and about. We were told she didn't like walking and was no good on lead, but although still a bit wary out and about, she is great on lead and loves going for her walks, often the first one waiting at the front door to go. She loves being off lead too (which we think is totally new for her) and she often breaks out in a zoomie before trotting nearby again.
Maggie is a truly delightful little dog, but like all dogs she is not perfect, she has ongoing issues that will need training and patience. She is still missing her previous family, and will run to anyone while out to say hello.
We will consider both homes as a single dog, and with the company of another calm dog as Maggie has just started to show signs of playfulness with the dogs she lives with.
We are in the fortunate position we expect a significant number of applications for Maggie so any reply may take up to 2 weeks as we sort through these.
Petrescue Applications are the ONLY form of application we are taking for Maggie so make it count by telling us about yourselves and the life she will lead with you.
For those very few who thinking calling is a good idea - - please note these calls will be politely but firmly ended without discussion.
Medical notes
Maggie's recent vet check advises that both patellas are noted as Grade 1 ( which is why we are seeking a single level home) and she does have some tartar and gingivitis so will need a home committed to a vet dental over the coming 12 months or so.
Her C5 vaccination will not be due until October 2022.
She has not been heartworm tested or treated.

Adoption details
Every email is read but it is hard to reply to so many sometimes so if the home is not appropriate, then your email wont be responded to sorry.
When rehoming our animals, it isn't about the first in , it is about the best home for that animal. It is not a reflection on applicants and we apologise to those who do miss out on a pet, but we are all volunteers and we put a lot of time and effort into our dogs and we want the best home for them.
