About Iris- Dingo
*ADOPT ME* 🐾
IRIS 🐕
Hi my name is Iris, I came to the rescue as an orphan wild-born dingo pup.
I love playing with the other dingoes at the rescue and currently share an enclosure with my best buddy Jojo. Other dogs and dingoes are my absolute favourite thing. I'm very curious and smart and love puzzle toys like treat balls and kongs.
I'm still getting used to humans, and I'm quite shy around strangers but I'm starting to wag my tail when I see my favourite humans and love a scratch behind the ears. With patience, time and treats we could be best friends.
ABOUT Iris:
Iris bonds strongly to people and is very loyal and intelligent. She is still extremely shy with strangers though and will hide when she hears a loud or unfamiliar sound or sees a new person. It is likely to take her a couple of weeks at least to warm up to new people in her fur-ever home, but with time and patience, you will see what a sweet, cheeky, affectionate pup she can be.
Since Iris can't be returned to the wild, she is on the hunt for a family who can patiently continue socialising and training with her, and introduce her to life with a human family. She would thrive with a quiet patient family that have experience with dingoes, street dogs or timid rescue dogs and are committed to positive reinforcement, training and socialising.
Iris loves to play other dingoes. Her new home MUST HAVE a male doggy or dingo friend of a similar size or bigger to play with and help build her confidence (no dogs under 10kg).
Iris would be fine in a home with kids 12+ only who are respectful and good with animals.
Iris walks well on a lead and can’t wait for her family to carry on her training with her. Dingoes respond well to postive reinforcement training and Iris is very intelligent, food motivated and eager to learn. Being a dingo however, she is not suitable to be let off leash outside the yard and she is unlikely to ever learn reliable recall (come when called) off the leash. Iris will never be the kind of dog who is comfortable in busy playgrounds, cafes or markets etc. but with training and patience, she should continue to build her confidence and enjoy walks in quiet settings like the beach or bush trails and quiet parks.
Like all dingoes, Iris is a good climber and digger! This means she will need secure fencing and will require one of the following:
- 2.2m (7 foot) colour or palling bond fencing (fences lower than this can be extended with lattice or similar)
- OR a dog enclosure
- OR a secure 1.8-meter fence with top angling or flat-top extensions (http://www.dog-blog-world.com/dog-fence/).
Iris needs a home with a backyard and cannot live in an apartment.
Could you be my fur-ever family? ❤🏡
Dingoes are not suitable to live with cats, birds or pocket pets unless they can be kept entirely separate.
Adoption details
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Goulburn shelter or their foster carers' home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We are happy to meet new prospective owners anywhere in NSW or the ACT.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
