Maxi is a very energetic and busy boy! His happy place is running around the dog park herding the other dogs or chasing birds around the oval at the local park.
He is very independent and likes his own space but will occasionally come to you for a pat or walk between your legs for a full body scratch.
Maxi is happy to sleep anywhere but really loves a bed he can call his own.
Maxi loves other dogs!! He lived with a cocker spaniel puppy for a while when growing up. He is very friendly to all people and dogs of all sizes, but does have the tendency to steal their toys! He would be able to share a home with another dog depending on the personality. Maxi would be better suited to a family with teenage children who have experience with dogs, he can get impatient with small children.
Maxi absolutely loves sitting in the sun on the grass and watching the world go by. If there is a secure fence he would spend his days outside if it's not too hot or raining. He tends to bark a bit but only when other dogs are walking past and they don't say hello. Maxi has dug holes in the past but only to settle into his space, so if you are worried about your lawn, he can be an inside dog during the day.
During the week Maxi is exercised 3 times per day - around 7am is a morning play at the dog park for 1 hour, then around midday he goes for a walk 1.5 hours and in the afternoon he has a play with the neighbour's dog for 30min. On the weekends, he loves a long bushwalk and a play at the dog park.
The ideal home for Maxi would be a family with teenage children where someone is home most of the time as he does not like being left alone. He would suit a very active family with a big property and that also have experience with large dogs.
Maxi’s adoption is an assisted adoption via PetRescue's Home2Home program. You will be speaking with Maxi’s owner when you enquire.
Maxi has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia.
Maxi needs ongoing hydrotherapy for his hips and it is likely he will need an operation when he is older. He is also on a special diet to ensure he does not get too heavy, being lite helps his condition.
Maxi doesn't like his feet being touched or being man handled/maneuvered and can growl and snap when he thinks you're going to move him. He gets upset when you get into his space but really likes the assistance onto the couch or into the car.
When enquiring about a pet listed with Home2Home, your enquiry goes directly to the pet’s owner - the person who knows them best!
It’s a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the pet, including its likes and dislikes, needs, and how it may fit into your lifestyle and family.
From here, the owner will be in touch with you to chat a bit more about their pet, and if they feel your home is the best fit, they will arrange a ‘meet and greet’ for you all to get to know each other.
Should this prove successful, arrangements will be made for the pet to move straight from its current home into yours upon payment of adoption fee. Change of Ownership paperwork will be completed, vetwork history will be provided and your new family member will be snuggled on your couch in no time!
