About Benny
PLEASE NOTE: ONLY INTEREST FROM THE PORT MACQUARIE AREA WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Meet Benny, our 5 year old smooth-haired Dachshund. A gorgeous boy, de-sexed, and vaccinated. He came to us after one of his owners passed away. He weighs in at 12kg so currently he is on a strict diet to lose 3kg.
He is a beautiful friendly boy, gets on well with his carer’s own dogs and loves to play with his squeaky ball and toys. Untested around cats. He is very inquisitive around other dogs when he is out walking, but he is just keen to go up and meet them and say hello!
He requires a secure fenced yard with a backyard big enough for him to run around in and play ball. At the moment he is having two 15 minutes walks a day, (to be increased as he gets fitter) and he just loves to get out and about! He is not a greedy dog when it comes to food, so with his exercise continuing he should be able to lose those unwanted kilos. He will require an owner who is committed to getting the excess weight off him, prepared to walk him at least twice a day. It seems that he prefers women to men and can be a bit intimidating when he first meets you, but he does settle down once he feels comfortable around you.
Benny is located in Port Macquarie and we are looking for a local home for him, with someone who has had experience with the Dachshund breed. He would benefit from having a doggy friend to play ball with, but also loves human contact. Ideally, he would love to sleep in your bedroom, in his own bed on the floor. At the moment, he sleeps in his carer’s lounge room, in his bed, with 4 other dogs for company. He does tend to whimper during the night, but eventually settles down and goes back in to his bed.
He is not suited to being left at home alone for long periods, he just loves company – but does not like being ignored! Hanging around the back yard becoming bored and being ignored does not suit him!
His coat requires minimal grooming, bathing when needed, nails and ears should be attended to frequently. He has had an ear infection which is being treated twice a day and is clearing up.
In summary: We are looking for a home in Port Macquarie with someone familiar with the Dachshund breed, someone who has owned one previously or who has a Dackie now. You must be prepared to continue his weight-loss program and exercise him, feed him good quality food to get his weight back to around 9kg.
Adoption Applications are now being issued so if you meet the conditions and think you would be able to provide Benny with the home he is looking for, please send us an email.

.......................
Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog. If you think you could be interested in becoming a foster carer, either on a long-term or a short-term basis, and would like more information please contact Nigel on 6584 4992 or Wendy on 6584 7027.
