About Buddy
Buddy is a friendly and an energetic American cross English Staffordshire Terrier. He loves playing, long walks, cuddles, scratches, people and other dogs. He is very trusting and social, and has a lot to give to family or a couple who likes spending time outside and keeping active.
Buddy gets along with other dogs very well, although he is a little clumsy and doesn’t always realise how big he is; he is good with kids of all ages, however being such a friendly boy and 26kg ,he can knock a smaller dog or a child over without meaning it. He gets very giddy around other dogs and may get distracted around them. He listens to some commands well, such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘wait’ and ‘paw’. He is safe to let off the lead in some areas and loves running off the lead, however isn’t quick to respond/to come back if he sees other dogs around. He loves playing and has never been aggressive towards other dogs.
Buddy is quite strong and still learning to not pull on a lead, Buddy is very jumpy and expresses his excitement by jumping up on people, regardless whether that’s on a walk or a new person entering the house. When he gets excited, he doesn’t really listen to command ‘down’. Rather common for Staffies, he play bites on arms and is yet to learn not to do so. This is very gentle and he doesn’t actually bite.
Buddy loves attention and playing. When he gets bored, he will bring you his toys and presses his nose gently against you. He sometimes gets a little whiney when he’s bored. Tug of war is his favourite game and he also fetches, however isn’t keen to let go of his toys when he brings them back. Instead, he brings the toy/stick/ball back to you and waits for you to play pull with him.
Buddy needs good exercise, he is currently being taken him out four times a day; mornings, lunch time, after work (around 5 or 6pm) and just before bed. He recognises some words such as ‘out’ and ‘walk’ and gets a little whiny if leaving the house takes too long.
He loves an egg mixed in his food, scrambled or raw, chicken, as well as berries and baked sweet potato and carrots. He also loves kale chips and brussel sprouts. As treats he loves pig ears, chicken and regular dog treats. He also has a Dentastix once a day around lunch time. In honesty, he’s not very fussy and won’t gobble his whole meal down at once, he likes to take his time over the day.
Buddy normally sleeps in his own bed, however if you let him come to your bed he will come under the duvet in the middle of the night and stay there until morning. Buddy doesn’t let anyone cut his nails and needs to be sedated to cut them. He rarely barks. He is used to traveling in lifts and using stairs. He is alright to travel in a car with a view out the window.
Buddy would be a great addition to a family with children or for a young couple who spend a lot of the time at home and keep active (e.g. can work from home). He is trained to be alone 2-3 hours at a time and seems to sleep most of the time when nobody is at home. He does have some separation anxiety. A family with kids who want a playful dog or a young couple who has the energy to take him out for walks and runs, would be an ideal home for him. He has been staying in a foster home without a yard, he loves spending time on the balcony, however he would ideally love a yard. Buddy has a lot of energy and so much love to give.
