About Nymeria ~ 4yr Old Kelpie X (On Trial 6/11/21)
Nymeria (a game of thrones name - sounds like “Nigeria” but with an M) is a gorgeous 4yr old Kelpie X Wolfhound. This gorgeous girl is a very loyal companion. She loves a tickle and always wants to be up on the sofa having a cuddle! She likes laying in the sun and in our home has a favourite spot where she can look out the window at the world. She is most happiest when she is near her humans when they are home, but she is very relaxed when they are out at work and spends the day snoozing.
Nymeria is fully house trained and has no interest in escaping the yard. She loves spending her days lazing around the house but enjoys a long walk once a day. She sleeps perfectly at night (indoors) and has only barked once or twice possibly when she has heard something outside. She barks once when she wants to come inside the house but doesn’t react when other neighbourhood dogs bark.
She is a large dog and is lead reactive to other dogs, so she needs someone committed to her ongoing training and guidance. She has met with a friends dogs several times and is getting used to being around them, heightened and excited for the first few minutes but then settling in. She is quite good on the lead, but she does pull a little and being a big dog you will need to have a certain level of strength. She can jump with excitement when meeting new people but will quickly calm down if you remind her! And it’s only to say hi!
Nymeria would be best suited as an only dog at this stage in her life. We will not assess homes with another dog at this time, and will only assess applications with experience with reactivity in dogs.
We have to pick her up to put her in the bath and she stands very still, she’s not a fan of the hose or sprinkler though s as I we haven’t tried her in the shower. She loves playing with humans but isn’t very interested in toys or balls. She was unsure of a neighbour’s cat at first and there was barking and running around wanting to play, but she has got used to him now and they even snooze together in the sunshine so we have seen great progress there.
She is great with kids- currently living with a one year old and three year old and loves them, greeting them with kisses and enjoys going for walks to pick them up from daycare and likes to say hi to the other kids through the fence! She is just not always aware of her size and although doesn’t jump up at the kids she can get excited and quickly run past them without being aware. Although she loves the kids, when they are around she seems more anxious to get the adults attention and will often try and get in between mum and child when putting shoes on etc and wants to be number 1. She does seem more relaxed when the kids aren’t around, but they are very young so perhaps she would be better suited to slightly older kids, although there really aren’t any major concerns.
If your looking for a loyal companion and a big softie, then this lovely girl will fit in with your family perfectly. To find out more about this pawfect pooch please contact Jillian on drn.jillian@gmail.com
