About Alfie
Alfie has received lots and lots of enquires since being listed for adoption, the lucky boy, so many that it has been impossible to contact everyone individually, so please accept my apologies firstly. Whilst Alfies profile is still very current, there are a few things that require mentioning here now to update his profile. I’m hoping that anyone that may have already enquired about him but perhaps has not heard back or new enquires, read the updates to his bio, and if you feel your home may be the right one for this gorgeous boy please email me.
ADDITIONAL BIO NOTES
Alfie is a beautiful boy, he desperately wants attention and cuddles. He has clearly been a loved boy, however he has also clearly had limited exposure to new people and new experiences. Alfie can show some fear based aggression to new people ,when he feels threatened in any way, he may growl and snap a little bit when new people come close or if he feels cornered. He is not a bad dog or an aggressive dog, he is just a scared little dog and his behaviour, in his mind has kept him safe. Within just one week he has grown to trust me, and be very comfortable to be picked up, cuddled & kissed and is enjoying some real rough and tumble play, even around his face, an area where he has been quite scared of being touched. Alfie is apparently not keen on being brushed or groomed and has for years been sedated at the vets for a Full clip a few times a year. My belief is that in the right home, and with the improvements I have seen in just the last week or two , this could change, however it may not and so his new home will need to be prepared to undertake this commitment going forward should it need to continue.
Alfie would dearly like his owners to be around all of the time, of course this is not possible. When left he does a long soft howl. If he were to be the only dog, he definitely needs a home where the owners are around or can take him with them the majority of the time. Whilst it doesn’t change his slight separation anxiety, I have seen him attempt to play with the other dogs and so a home with another gentle small dog could be good.
Alfie needs very dog confident, kind and patient owners who will give him the time and space to trust, you will be rewarded with the love of this sweet boy. He also quite likes men, so a male presence in the house would be a bonus.
————-
Alfie is an 8 year old Maltese X Poodle. We gave him space and let him settle in at his own pace. We knew that he was a bright and observant dog from day 1. By day 3, he was sleeping at the foot of our bed. Within a couple of weeks he was familiar with the neighbour and every path to our door, he feelsat home and now owns us , and the apartment. He is a very, very loving dog who enjoys extended snuggle sessions.
He doesn’t have food or toy obsessions. His separation anxiety is minimal and probably more a symptom than a trait. He is social with other dogs his size and tends to ignore the big ones. He is good off-leash at the dog park. He doesn’t lose track of his humans and will not wander far. He has been trained to heel and does so until he wants to go home - then he’ll lead if he knows the way.
He’s good with adults and older children who respect his space. He doesn’t like unpredictable, fast and in-your-face attention from anyone. He’s wary of little kids and keeps his distance. He‘s a family dog who will become protective of person and property. Meaning he will bark at strangers and noises he doesn’t recognise but learns to trust quickly He grumbles when he is frustrated and sneezes when he gets excited. Otherwise, he’s pretty quiet.
He would do well with a family with older children if any and pets are fine. Give him space, patience and love in the beginning and you will be richly rewarded.
