Jesse came to us as a stray street cat with an open wound on his neck, lots of other battle scars and half wild and untouchable. He was beaten and broken, terrified and had no trust in humans at all. We were unable to pat him or touch him for some time without him lashing out and he was very angry, but we knew that there was a sweet boy in there somewhere.
Fast forward a couple of months, after much work and patience, and he is now an affectionate, playful and happy boy. He still has his moments where his old ways show through if something startles him but he now loves a pat and a good rub, he’ll lay on the floor and smooch around your feet and he’s very playful with his toys, especially his mousey. We’re in the process of introducing him to our resident brood of five cats, and so far, so good. It’s very early days with the introductions so things can only get better going forward.
Jesse does have FIV from his life on the streets, so he will need an indoor only home, preferably with an outdoor enclosure so he can enjoy the outdoors and get some sun. He is very energetic for his age, so he would appreciate lots of space and toys. He may be fine with another cat as long as the introductions are done slowly and with care. His new parents will need to be patient and understanding that he is an ex-street cat and will need lots of time to adjust and lots of reassurance.
He can be patted, picked up, he is happy to sit beside you on the couch, although he’s not a lap cat at this stage. Jesse will likely do better with no kids and we are still not sure if he would be okay with other cats and or dogs. Introducing him to other cats is still a work in progress.
Jesse is FIV+, has been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and fully vet checked. According to his vet and in spite of the FIV, he is a very healthy boy and he definitely has more energy and desire to play than our younger resident cats. He does have a small wound on his neck, which has almost healed up now.
This sweet boy needs a home with parents who are willing to take the time to allow him to adjust at his own pace. He would suit a home where he has someone home most of the time as he does fret being alone for too long. Jesse will retreat to his safe space if new people come into the home so again, patience is mandatory for this darling boy. Jesse is also very determined to get himself back out onto the streets and will search for a way out, so securing the home and surrounds is a must.
If you are looking for a sweet boy to welcome into your home who’s had a rough time of it, this is the boy for you. He needs parents who understand that he is still an ongoing work in progress and who are happy to invest the time and effort to bring out his best. He is quite a clever boy and learns quickly, so he’d love someone who’d spend time playing with him. Jesse can’t wait to meet his new parents and live his best life.

Medical notes
Jesse has tested positive for FIV but has no symptoms.
Studies have found that FIV+ cats often outlive their FIV- friends.
http://www.catchat.org/fiv.html "A ten-year FIV Monitoring Project was carried out at Glasgow Veterinary School involving 26 cats and the results indicated that a higher percentage of FIV negative cats died during the period of the study than FIV positive cats, and that FIV infection did not affect the cats' life expectancy.
You can also find more information here: http://fivcats.com/FIV/fiv_mixed_households.html
Dr Diane D. Addie (Lecturer in Veterinary Virology, University of Glasgow) said "at least 3 studies in FIV positive cats have shown a life span equal to uninfected cats."
A fourteen year study by Maureen Hutchison B.Sc, BVMS, MRCVS (veterinary adviser to the Cat Action Trust) found that FIV-positive cats are more likely to die by being killed in road accidents or to be alive and well into their twilight years than they are to die from any FIV related condition."
