About Matisse- Dingo
Hi I'm Matisse (Mati)! I love cuddling, chasey and most of all squeaky toys! I'm a cuddly boy and would love to snuggle on your lap almost as much as I love long walks or hiking in the bush! I'd make a great companion for an active individual or a family with older kids.
I'm a northern dingo, rescued from a remote mining site in the bush with my brothers. Because I've been around humans from a young age I'm a very social, friendly, playful boy.
Busy or crowded places like cafes and markets make me a bit nervous though (I am a dingo after all!) so I'd prefer quiet walks in the park or the bush or maybe even the beach!
I love going in the car and I'm great with other large/medium dogs. I would love a dog or dingo companion with plenty of energy at my new home since I am still a puppy and love to romp around and wrestle and play.
I am easily excited and still learning my manners, but I can walk on lead and I'm very food motivated and an intelligent fast learner. I'd definitely benefit from someone keen to continue my training, being a dingo I do not have good recall and must stay on lead when outside of a fenced yard.
I am a very good digger (in fact it's one of my favourite activities), so I hope you don't mind putting some pavers or mesh at the edge of your yard fencing to make sure I don't dig out. You'll also need tall fencing (2.2.m or 1.8m with an inward facing 45 degree angled return of 60cm) to stop me from jumping/climbing out and getting up to mischief. A dog enclosure (at least 25m square) is another good idea for when I'm home alone.
Could you be my fur-ever family?
Dingoes are not suitable to live with cats, birds or pocket pets unless they can be kept entirely seperate.
Fencing requirements:
A high content dingo typically has two dingo parents or a large amount of dingo genetics. High content dingoes are often known as “pure dingoes”. High content dingoes have much stricter fencing requirements due to their climbing ability. You will need ONE OR MORE of the follow BEFORE an adoption trial for a high content dingo can begin.
- A 2.2m colour-bond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line
- A 1.8m fence (of any sturdy material) with a 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing (see here: https://sanctuarysos.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cat-proof-fence-barrier-to-keep-cats-safe-in-the-garden.jpg ).
- A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m)
- Mesh, concrete or similar around the base of the fence may also be required
Some manufacturers of pre-made dog enclosures include:

Another option is using construction fencing style panels from Bunnings or welded mesh sheets and posts.
Animal rescue is considered essential. SFDR can still come to you for meet and greets, yard checks and animal adoptions. We have volunteers in Canberra and New South Wales and can come to you even if you we are not in your local government area. Distance is not an issue when we are looking for the perfect homes for our dingoes. Please note we have COVID safety measures in place.
Adoption details
Please note at this time pending legal advice we are unable to offer fox kit adoption to private owners.
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Gouburn shelter or their foster carers home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We drive dingoes all over NSW and the ACT to meet families interested in adoption.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
