About Leia
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 and travel being restricted, I can only be adopted in NSW or ACT.
Leia is three year old stock coated German Shepherd who is looking for a committed owner.
Leia looks a sweet dog in her photographs, and in the right hands she will blossom. However her previous owner wanted a guard dog so this diminutive little shepherd was required to alert her owner to people entering the property.
Her life was not good throughout those vital young years, she had no socialisation and limited if any play time and virtually confined in the yard.
When we were first introduced to Leia she was reactive, fearful and so unsure of what was to happen. It took our experienced shepherd team volunteers to gain her trust to handle her.
Leia has been in our care some weeks now and has undergone full vet assessment and desexing.
Leia is in a foster home where she is given a daily routine, structure and boundaries. Training so that she can become a calm dog and the confidence to gain trust with her carers. But it has taken time, patience and commitment. Leia is now to the point that she sleeps calmly in the foster home.
She plays well with her fellow rescue shepherds. When visitors arrive she will revert to being on alert and will bark at strangers.
Shepherds are intuitive and intelligent and due to Leia’s old owner enforcing harsh discipline in her young life and also lack of understanding to provide Leia with the fundamental needs to develop into a balanced shepherd, this has caused her to be fear based.
Leia is in need of a committed owner who has the patience to continue with her development into a loving and playful young dog.
Having observed Leia in her foster home it is determined that Leia be adopted by an experienced Shepherd or large dog breed owner.
To ensure Leia continues on her road to a happy life we are prepared to provide her new owner with a training session with our amazing Dog Behaviourist and Trainer, Bear the Behaviourist.
No children and preferably a home as the only dog or as a friend for a calm desexed medium to large male dog. At this stage a home with no cats, small dogs or pocket pets.
Intelligence, loyalty, love and companionship is what Leia will provide when she connects and learns to trust her new owner.
If you understand the nature of the German Shepherd and are looking for a companion dog then consider Leia.
If you think you can give this beautiful young girl a new home please contact us by selecting the "Enquire about this Pet".
Medical notes
Leia is microchipped, vaccinated and desexed. Leia will come with a complimentary Training Session with the amazing Bear the Dog Behaviourist.

Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
