About Sookie
“Sookie” is a 4 year old German shorthaired pointer x female who is looking for a very special home. Sookie has quirks but she is also one of the kindest most loving dogs we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. This dog has not been treated very kindly at some point, she is petrified of sudden sounds and movements including the mop, hose and vacuum cleaner. When the kids are playing and being too loud she exits a room. She was previously living with other dogs who fought with her and she had a puncture wound the day we picked her up. As a result of this she is predominately dog reactive. (she has become accustomed to the dogs she is being fostered with and likes to say hello to them). When out on walks she will ignore a dog if you correct her. However we need her to be rehomed as an only dog. Pocket pets and cats are also out of the question she just gets too excited by them. She has lived in a home with someone with a disability and has learnt to walk alongside a wheelchair. She has learnt sit, come and stay. Her favourite things are squeaky toys she would play fetch for hours if you let her. She is a complete snuggle buddy and Sookie absolutely loves to be loved. She is great with children and has previously lived with 3 of them but would be best suited to a home with older children who could recognize when she wanted to leave a situation. Sookie loves to play and explore outdoors but she is an inside dog and loves chilling out on the recliners and the beds. Sookie gets frightened of new people coming into her house so if people are visiting Sookie needs to be put into a different area until she warms up to them. She MUST always be given the option to leave an uncomfortable interaction. She loves going for rides in the car and is a perfect travel buddy. Sookie would do best in a home with someone who has the time to spend with her and is either home most of the time or working part time.

If you are interested in one of our animals please phone or send an email to rescue@btcanimalshelter.com.au and we will reply as soon as possible.
