About Jax *On Trial in New Home Yay!!*
Petite frame, a quiet manner, big round eyes, tidy tuxedo, enjoys the company of other cats, tolerates polite dogs - describes this friendly boy. He was adopted out as a rambunctious young kitten after coming here with his sister at only a few weeks old. For 3 years it seemed all was well but then I got a call from Cat Haven to say he had been surrendered to a local council and sent on to them but was still chipped in my name. I don't really know what happened except that his owner had become very ill and he had some experiences which temporarily changed his personality.
When I got Jax back I was upset and disappointed to see him nervous & defensive and behaving in an unfriendly way; so unlike how he had been. He didn't want to engage with me and he hissed & scratched if I overstepped his boundary. But after a few weeks of coaxing, talking, gradual gentle handling and showing him that whatever had happened, his life was now once again stable, he gradually turned back around and began to be more like his old self. He was fine with all the other cats here from the start and showed the eagerly interested dogs he was their boss with hisses, as a cat needs to do. After a month or so he seemed just like any ordinary house cat asking for and enjoying pats, smooches and leg-rubs.
Then unfortunately, we all had to be evacuated due to bush-fires and he spent several days in a smallish pen with 4 of his foster brothers which was stressful to them all of course. The first day there he went right back to being anxious & hissy & stayed inside his carrier as I had suspected would happen, but by the end he had improved a lot, cuddling with a brother on one of the ledges. When I brought them all home I wondered how far back he'd been pushed and was amazed & delighted to see him back to normal after only a couple of days! I knew the time had come for him to find his real forever home!
Jax enjoys not only playing with the other cats but also with toys and trailing ropes. He loves the battery-operated toy that spins an arm around the hub, making noises and stopping & starting. He hunts insects, finds high places to sleep and also enjoys inhabiting cave structures. He knows his name and can come when called but he's also happy to sit somewhere high & watch you search for him. He doesn't mind being carried around and he's not too spooked when strangers walk in.
For his safety and your own peace of mind, Jax must be an indoor-only cat, although a secure cat enclosure would be a wonderful bonus for him. But an enriched household (with cat towers, scratchers & plenty of toys), some good window seats & views of outside with a screen door or window to look through & sniff the breeze, and lots of attention should be adequate. It might be that Jax would be fine without any pets in the house as long as he gets human family attention but he would particularly like to have a feline friend.

Medical notes
Jax is eating a very nourishing, high quality diet and we will ask the adoptive family to continue feeding a similar quality. He has been microchipped and sterilised and will have a vaccination booster prior to adoption. All animals living here are wormed and flea-treated regularly. He has no health issues.
Adoption details
When you see the picture, read the profile & think "This is the one!" I want to hear from you! Please message me so I can send you an application form. Although it's important for these adoptees to find their forever homes asap, there will be an informal interview process to see if you both match. This is the difference between adopting & buying and it serves the really important purpose of keeping you together for life. All family members will be included in the adoption process. Everyone counts.
1. Message me.
2. I send you an Application form via email.
3. I will phone you.
4. Meet & greet.
5. 2 week (or more) trial adoption.
6. You have a new family member!
The adoption fee shown on each listing partially covers the cost of the vetwork needed before adoption & it allows rescue continuity. It is seriously much cheaper to adopt from a rescue than to get a "Free to good home" & organise all the vetwork yourself.
Once it's been decided that you will trial your possible family member, you will complete the adoption form, pay the fee & take him/her home to see for sure that the fit is right. The settling in process can take some time or it may be almost instant. If after a while (around 2 weeks) it becomes apparent that the chemistry just isn't there, the animal can be returned for a full refund. Please be aware that this is not a failure for either you or the adoptee. It simply didn't work & there is no blame.
If the adoption goes ahead but some unforeseen circumstance rises in the future, near or far, where you must be separated, your pet MUST be returned to PRAAS; not rehomed by yourself. We have rescued that animal & we need to know that he/she is safe for the rest of its life. It may be that you have a wonderful next home to move them to, in which case please let us know.
