About Jess
1) Generally (check out her movie taking treats)
- Wary of Other Dogs - details below
- Not Good With Cats
- Best for homes without kids - details below
- Toilet Trained
- Size 17 kgs
2) Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Super affectionate, loyal and joyful - this Cocker Spaniel is waiting to become someone's devoted companion.
People who know the breed understand Cocker Spaniels are caring and warm hearted with tendencies to also be stubborn and demanding. But when you are this cute why not??
This breed is known to be responsive to training.
Jess is typical of the breed in that she is extremely affectionate and hence, sometimes clingy and attention seeking.
2) Other Dogs
Jess is wary of unfamiliar dogs but is not aggressive. She is good with other friendly dogs at home but is not keen on meeting new doggy friends when out.
3) Ideal Owner
Active singles or couples, perhaps with older kids who visit, who are home more often than not.
As Jess would like all the attention she will be best suited as the only permanent dog in the home.
Jess can be protective around food (may even nip if attempts are made to steal it) hence, we recommend homes where any visiting kids are at least teenagers and only if gentle and calm around dogs.
She will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.
As Jess is people orientated she needs to be part of family activities.
Jess will not suit homes with residents that are:
- very young, frail, elderly,
- renters,
- novice dog owners or
- time poor.
4) Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Jess will alert to something strange but is currently not a nuisance barker.
Jess will suit any of the following:
- someone home more often than not.
- someone that works from home.
- empty nesters.
- active retirees.
5) Exercise Requirements
Medium - playful and moderately active. Jess loves getting out and about.
6) When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs she starts off pulling but settles.
7) When OFF a lead ...
Like many dogs her recall is good unless distracted.
8) Type of Yard Required
- Medium to large interesting and secure.
- May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but does not usually try and escape.
- Ok with shoulder height fencing.
Most Recent Vet Check OCT 2019 - please read below for comments.
Medical notes
Jess had a full vet check up late OCT 2019. X rays showed no arthritis. Teeth were cleaned and are in great condition (no extractions). She does have very early signs of kidney disease that would not have been picked up if not for a routine blood test - no symptoms. She is on a new special diet and her prognosis is very good.
We can provide more details and access to vet records for folks genuinely interested.
''Jess was in very good health for a doggy her age and was also a very lovely and easy patient,'' wrote her vet after the visit.

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS (simple and easy)
1. Read the dog's detailed profile thoroughly - for you to self screen
2. The Expression of Interest (EOI) form MUST be completed prior to a meet and greet.
https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
3. Speak to the carer/owner directly for more detailed info to determine if there are any 'deal breakers' - designed to save time and avoid falsely raising hopes.
4. 'Meet & Greet' - you travel to where the dog is. If you have a current dog it must meet too. We strongly recommend all members of the family attend. Both parties may wish to report their thoughts to each other but MUST update Dog Adoption directly too.
5. The dog MUST not be taken on the day unless PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS have been made e.g. travelling more then 2 hrs round trip. In this case we need a minimum of 2 days notice. The adoption agreement and payment must be made before collection of the dog.
6. Normally, both parties have a think about the meeting, and if they wish to proceed, the adoption is completed after the adoption agreement, payment and screening is finalised.
7. A 2 week cooling off period commences once the dog arrives.

Folks who complete EOIs have a higher priority then general enquiries - due to a lack of resources. Your info is protected under Privacy Legislation.
