About Trevor
1) Generally
- Good with Other Dogs
- Not Good With Cats
- Good with Kids + 12 yrs - may knock a small child over
- Toilet Trained
- Size 32 kgs
2) Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Good with other dogs, smart, fun-loving, curious, affectionate and playful - Trevor is an eager people pleaser.
Folks who know the breed understand German Shorthaired Pointers need to be given the right amount of exercise and mental stimulation to be happy - otherwise home life can become strained.
Trevor enjoys training, food and being in the company of his family. He also loves a good ear rub and can be a little cheeky at times.
While German Shorthaired Pointers are generally easy going, they should not be trusted around cats or small dogs due to their desire to chase.
This is a rare opportunity to adopt a dog that has been cherished and very well looked after.
3) Ideal Owner
Active, outdoorsey and fun loving singles or couples with plenty of time, energy and affection - ready to commit to a loyal, happy and healthy dog.
Trevor can cope alone however, this people orientated breed attach themselves deeply to their family which is why they are best suited for families where someone is often home or don't work long hours.
Couch potatoes or time poor folks - look elsewhere. That's not to say Trevor doesn't enjoy down time and cuddles too after an adventure.
Another friendly dog for company would be nice but is not essential.
While Trevor is good with kids we recommend homes where any kids are at least teenagers and only if gentle and calm around dogs. No dog deserves to be rough housed or exposed to a loud, chaotic environment.
Trevor will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.
Trevor will not suit homes with residents that are:
- very young, frail, elderly,
- renters,
- novice dog owners or
- time poor.
4) Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
GSPs are excellent alert dogs, and can be counted on to bark when something strange is around the property.
Confined to a small yard and without company for extended periods, Trevor is currently barking but can be commanded to stop.
Trevor will suit any of the following:
- someone home more often than not.
- stay at home parent.
- someone that works from home.
- part time workers as long as someone is home more often than not.
- empty nesters.
- active retirees.
5) Exercise Requirements
Medium - playful and moderately active.
6) When ON a lead ...
Well behaved.
7) When OFF a lead ...
Takes off and won't come back.
8) Type of Yard Required
- Medium to large interesting and secure. Even better this breed typically enjoys acreage.
- Will dart through an open gate or door and take off.
- Ok with shoulder height fencing.

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS (simple and easy)
1. Read the dog's detailed profile thoroughly - for you to self screen
2. The Expression of Interest (EOI) form MUST be completed prior to a meet and greet.
https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
3. Speak to the carer/owner directly for more detailed info to determine if there are any 'deal breakers' - designed to save time and avoid falsely raising hopes.
4. 'Meet & Greet' - you travel to where the dog is. If you have a current dog it must meet too. We strongly recommend all members of the family attend. Both parties may wish to report their thoughts to each other but MUST update Dog Adoption directly too.
5. The dog MUST not be taken on the day unless PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS have been made e.g. travelling more then 2 hrs round trip. In this case we need a minimum of 2 days notice. The adoption agreement and payment must be made before collection of the dog.
6. Normally, both parties have a think about the meeting, and if they wish to proceed, the adoption is completed after the adoption agreement, payment and screening is finalised.
7. A 2 week cooling off period commences once the dog arrives.
