About Dougie (& Bruce)
1) Generally
Good with Other Dogs
Not Good With Cats
Good with Kids + 12 yrs due size
Toilet Trained
Size 20 kgs each
2) Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Ok for full time workers, Bruce and Dougie will suit sporty, outdoorsey families looking for fun, smart, dependable and loyal companions.
Like many Kelpies, Bruce is alert, eager to please, intelligent and noted for his loyalty - a very capable dog.
Dougie is typical of her breed - intelligent, resourceful, active, alert, hard-working, protective, active, and suits sporty types. As expected of the breed Dougie can be protective of the family especially around dogs she does not know. When introduced correctly she is fine and happy to play.
Both dogs are obedient, walk well on the lead and rarely run off when off the lead.
3) Ideal Owner
Active singles or couples who enjoy the outdoors looking for fun loving, smart and playful companions.
They are ok for full time workers (9am-5pm) as long as the dogs are a central focus when people are home.
While they are good around kids we recommend permanent kids in the home be 12 years or older and only if gentle and calm around dogs. Bruce may be a bit excitable at times and may try and give some kisses - licks on the face.
Bruce and Dougie will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.
As the dogs are people orientated they need to be part of family activities.
They will not suit homes with residents that are:
- very young, frail, elderly,
- renters or
- time poor.
4) Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but are not currently nuisance barkers.
The dogs will suit any of the following:
- someone home more often than not.
- stay at home parent.
- someone that works from home.
- part time workers as long as someone is home more often than not.
- empty nesters.
- active retirees.
- full time workers (9am-5pm) as long as the dogs are a central focus when folks are home.
5) Exercise Requirements
Bruce. High - will run and run, cannot miss a day.
Dougie. Medium - playful and moderately active.
6) When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs they start off pulling but settle.
When OFF a lead ...
They stay close by and come when called.
7) Type of Yard Required
Medium to large interesting and secure.
May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but do not usually try and escape.
Ok with shoulder height fencing.
8) Contractural Note

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS (simple and easy)
1. Read the dog's detailed profile thoroughly - for you to self screen
2. The Expression of Interest (EOI) form MUST be completed prior to a meet and greet.
https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
3. Speak to the carer/owner directly for more detailed info to determine if there are any 'deal breakers' - designed to save time and avoid falsely raising hopes.
4. 'Meet & Greet' - you travel to where the dog is. If you have a current dog it must meet too. We strongly recommend all members of the family attend. Both parties may wish to report their thoughts to each other but MUST update Dog Adoption directly too.
5. The dog MUST not be taken on the day unless PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS have been made e.g. travelling more then 2 hrs round trip. In this case we need a minimum of 2 days notice. The adoption agreement and payment must be made before collection of the dog.
6. Normally, both parties have a think about the meeting, and if they wish to proceed, the adoption is completed after the adoption agreement, payment and screening is finalised.
7. A 2 week cooling off period commences once the dog arrives.
