About Franklin
1) General
- Good with Other Dogs
- Not Good With Cats
- Good with Kids + 12 yrs due 'puppy like' excitability
- Toilet Trained
- Size 23 kgs
2) Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
''If you’re chosen to be owned by a Stumpy, you will be rewarded with a breed that has a sense of humour, great stamina, boundless energy and a mate for life,” said Sarah Wilson of the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog Club of NSW.
To owners the stumpy truly is man’s best friend.
Typical of his breed, Franklin is obedient, intelligent and generally won’t act unless commanded to do so. Playful, active and an excellent hiking buddy.
He is good around food and won't eat until told to do so.
Franklin loves any ball, including his soccer ball, and will play with it alone. He also likes to play fetch and enjoys the water including the beach - a little scared of waves though. He loves puzzle games and searching for things you hide, mainly "where's the ball?".
He dislikes wheelie bins and lawn mower wheels and barks at the trees when very windy. He is intrigued by storms and lightening but is not scared or anxious.
3) Ideal Owner
Active singles or couples with plenty of time and space able to continue training an obedient and smart young dog.
While Franklin prefers company he can cope alone. Even though he loves the outdoors Franklin is also an affectionate, loyal dog who is well behaved inside.
Another permanent friendly dog would be nice but not essential.
Franklin will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.
As Franklin is people orientated he needs to be part of family activities.
He will not suit homes with residents that are:
- very young, frail, elderly,
- renters,
- novice dog owners or
- time poor.
4) Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker.
Franklin will suit any of the following:
someone home more often than not.
someone that works from home.
part time workers as long as someone is home more often than not.
empty nesters.
active retirees.
5) Exercise Requirements
High. He loves at least a daily one hour walk and will keep playing fetch in the park until told it is home time.
6) When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs Franklin starts off pulling but settles - his mum says he is 'great on a lead.''
7) When OFF a lead ...
Stays close by and comes when called. If meeting new dogs he will wait for instructions before approaching in a calm manner.
8) Type of Yard Required
- Medium to large interesting and secure.
- Ok with shoulder height fencing.
- Acreage would be great but not essential.
Franklin still has some normal puppy like behaviour including a tendency to chew his toys. He loves puzzle based food toys. Don't leave shoes out or they might get a nibble!!

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS (simple and easy)
1. Read the dog's detailed profile thoroughly - for you to self screen
2. The Expression of Interest (EOI) form MUST be completed prior to a meet and greet.
https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
3. Speak to the carer/owner directly for more detailed info to determine if there are any 'deal breakers' - designed to save time and avoid falsely raising hopes.
4. 'Meet & Greet' - you travel to where the dog is. If you have a current dog it must meet too. We strongly recommend all members of the family attend. Both parties may wish to report their thoughts to each other but MUST update Dog Adoption directly too.
5. The dog MUST not be taken on the day unless PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS have been made e.g. travelling more then 2 hrs round trip. In this case we need a minimum of 2 days notice. The adoption agreement and payment must be made before collection of the dog.
6. Normally, both parties have a think about the meeting, and if they wish to proceed, the adoption is completed after the adoption agreement, payment and screening is finalised.
7. A 2 week cooling off period commences once the dog arrives.
