About Princess *On Trial*
Princess is a happy girl. She's grown up with the love of a family of 3 small children and is very gentle with them, altho of course supervision is always necessary. She isn't jumpy or rough but loves her ball, playing chasey, playing with water from the hose and also catching flies!
Princess has a short, easy-care coat with a definite ridge and the prettiest face as you can see in her pics. She had a litter last year (is now sterilised) and has regained all the condition that she lost in feeding 10 pups and is in perfect health.
We found Princess a foster carer when her family couldn't have her at their rental and that is the only reason she was given up for adoption. She was doted on by an extended family and is now living with a caring foster mum and a toddler. (see later pics)
Princess had no dog socialisation at the critical age, so she is often "rude" with strange dogs which confuses the other dog and annoys or frightens some of them - but has been going to training every week all this year and has improved enormously. Her trainer is confident that she can learn to have normal, friendly interactions with most dogs. After adoption she should continue with classes to reinforce the good behaviour she is learning around dogs and other stressful situations. She is still wary of vacuums & lawnmowers etc.
If you have another dog the settling-in period may take time. We can't say in advance which temperament or gender she will react to but our trainer is happy to help. If you are currently dogless then it will be much smoother. Initially she's a little nervous of surroundings but learns quickly after exploration & happy faces that all is well.
IMPORTANTLY, her new family must have a leader for her; someone confident so she knows in stressful situations that she is safe & doesn't need to protect herself or you.
While she is still on trial she will continue to go to weekly classes at no cost to you, where she is learning not just how to hang out with doggy friends but general obedience. (Endless gratitude to our trainer Heidi for this priceless offer.)
*Please NOTE that training is in YANCHEP on Saturday mornings.*
So that was the detail of the difficulties Princess has, but it's important to focus on the rest of her too! She has a purely adorable nature. She loves to be with people and is friendly & affectionate with strangers, sits on your lap if invited, enjoys car rides, has good dinner manners, is calm indoors and loves getting out and about. Being in a family of little ones she has not been on any real adventures but is now accustomed to regular walks & outings & we feel sure she would be a great mate for holidays and hikes etc. This might even be her true calling!
Princess lived with another (male) dog & until recently had not experienced time alone. (see the pic where she's sleeping on him!) But we found she usually sleeps or plays with her toys when left outside in good weather and only barks briefly when neighbours come & go. If left inside on her own she is equally happy & non-destructive. She will need interactive (mind-occupying) toys. The yard should be secure and as with all dog adoptions, a fence-check will be carried out prior to placement.
Princess alerts you to visitors by barking but does not bark inappropriately.
She is very healthy on her new BARF diet (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) which can be bought frozen or home-made with a good recipe. Anyone interested in Princess should be aware that we feel she deserves the best quality diet and must be able to agree to provide it for her.
Our dogs are part of the family and are expected to spend time inside as well as sleep inside, be exercised each day, have comfy beds and interesting toys & be shown how to fit into the family.
*Princess' fabulous carer has had an injury so she needs another carer urgently - someone who can take her to training in Yanchep!
Located in Merriwa.
Medical notes
Princess has no health issues according to the vet who examined her. She was recently sterilised, vaccinated and microchipped. She has regular routine worm & flea treatments.
She is at her ideal weight of around 25kg and is being fed a high quality diet which has done wonders for her coat and general condition.
Adoption details
When you see the picture, read the profile & think "This is the one!" I want to hear from you! Please message me with your email address so I can send you an application form. Although it's important for these adoptees to find their forever homes asap, there will be an informal interview process to see if you both match. This is the difference between adopting & buying and it serves the really important purpose of keeping you together for life. All family members will be included in the adoption process. Everyone counts.
1. Message me.
2. I send you an Application form via email.
3. I will phone you.
4. Meet & greet.
5. 2 week (or more) trial adoption.
6. You have a new family member!
The adoption fee shown on each listing mainly covers the cost of the vetwork needed before adoption & it allows rescue continuity. It is seriously much cheaper to adopt from a rescue than to get a "Free to good home" & organise all the vetwork yourself.
Once it's been decided that you will trial your possible family member, you will complete the adoption form, pay the fee & take him/her home to see for sure that the fit is right. The settling in process can take some time or it may be almost instant. If after a while (around 2 weeks) it becomes apparant that the chemistry just isn't there, the animal can be returned for a full refund. Please be aware that this is not a failure for either you or the adoptee. It simply didn't work & there is no blame.
If the adoption goes ahead but some unforseen circumstance rises in the future, near or far, where you must be separated, your pet MUST be returned to PRAAS; not rehomed by yourself. We have rescued that animal & we need to know that he/she is safe for the rest of its life. It may be that you have a wonderful next home to move them to, in which case please let us know.
If the animal is returned to us at this later stage there is no refund.
