About Narla | Smartest One In The Class
1) Generally
- Not Good Socially with Other Dogs
- Tolerates Cats - Needs Space
- No kids
- Toilet Trained
- Size 28 kgs
2) Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Narla is her happiest when at home in a calm environment, free to shadow her owner around the garden or play while someone mows the lawn.
Narla is true to her breed - alert, intelligent, watchful and courageous. She is highly trustworthy and reliable, with a tenacious sense of duty. As expected, Narla is loyal to her owners and wary of strangers, protective and not great with other dogs socially.
Narla likes plenty of pats, chasing games with her chew toys, a bath and a gentle hose down. She also likes the car. She dislikes being startled, loud noises and will be wary in unfamiliar situations. She gets frightened during thunderstorms too. She is usually sedated when taken to the vet.
At home, she is a friendly, happy dog and will nudge your hand for a pat.
3) Ideal Owner
Active singles or couples with a calm, quiet routine looking for a loyal, affectionate and steadfast companion. Narla loves people and is eager to please.
Like most cattle dogs, Narla needs to be the only permanent dog in the home and is not recommended in homes with kids.
She will not suit homes where people live in very close proximity to each other with small outside areas e.g. villas, units, apartment complexes, terrace houses, strata complexes etc.
As Narla is people orientated she needs to be part of family activities.
She will not suit homes with residents that are:
- very young, frail, elderly,
- renters or
- time poor.
4) Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but can be commanded to stop.
Narla will suit any of the following:
- someone home more often than not.
- part time workers as long as someone is home more often than not.
- empty nesters.
- active retirees.
She is fine alone for half the day.
5) Exercise Requirements
Medium - playful and moderately active. If you miss a daily walk she is happy if you play with her in the yard.
6) When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs she is ok unless distracted. She will become wary and pull if she sees another dog.
7) When OFF a lead ...
Sometimes good - gets distracted easily. We recommend she is always on a lead.
8) Type of Yard Required
- Medium to large interesting and secure. Ideally acreage.
- May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but does not usually try and escape.
- Ok with shoulder height fencing.

Adoption details
ADOPTION PROCESS (simple and easy)
1. Read the dog's detailed profile thoroughly - for you to self screen
2. The Expression of Interest (EOI) form MUST be completed prior to a meet and greet.
https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
3. Speak to the carer/owner directly for more detailed info to determine if there are any 'deal breakers' - designed to save time and avoid falsely raising hopes.
4. 'Meet & Greet' - you travel to where the dog is. If you have a current dog it must meet too. We strongly recommend all members of the family attend. Both parties may wish to report their thoughts to each other but MUST update Dog Adoption directly too.
5. The dog MUST not be taken on the day unless PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS have been made e.g. travelling more then 2 hrs round trip. In this case we need a minimum of 2 days notice. The adoption agreement and payment must be made before collection of the dog.
6. Normally, both parties have a think about the meeting, and if they wish to proceed, the adoption is completed after the adoption agreement, payment and screening is finalised.
7. A 2 week cooling off period commences once the dog arrives.
