About Holly ~ Bull Arab X Kelpie (on trial 22/1/19)
This is Holly, a beautiful looking 3 year old Bull Arab x Kelpie girl who is well mannered, a little shy, yet quite playful and very gentle.
Dog Rescue Newcastle is doing an assisted adoption for Holly and her owner as their circumstances have changed and unfortunately Holly needs a new home. Her owner is devastated and is hoping we can find a new, loving family and home for Holly.
She is a delightful and gentle soul, who loves nothing more than a pat, a cuddle and to be a lap dog. She can be a little shy at first and won’t run up to you straight away but when she does, she will come up for a loving pat and then just sit by your side.
Holly’s owner rescued her from a neglectful home 2 years ago, where she was chained up and not in a healthy state and from that moment, Holly has certainly been a big part of the family. She is very gentle and has lovely manners; waiting to be told or asked to do things. Holly is allowed to be inside with the family but will always wait until she’s been told that she can come inside. She knows to sit and wait for her meals and responds to commands like sit, shake and stop. Holly also knows that being inside at night means quiet time and as long as she is by your side (if not lying on your lap), she is quite content.
Holly’s typically not a destructive dog, but if she gets bored, she might dig a little, so it would benefit everyone if Holly was walked and played with regularly as she does have a bit of that Kelpie drive in her. She doesn’t try to escape, but if you leave the gate open, she likes to play the “catch me if you can game”. It doesn’t last long though. A lap around the block and she’s home. Again, with regular walks and playtime, this won’t be a problem. Being a big dog, Holly will need some extra training on lead walking, because she is strong and will pull with excitement. A harness has proven to be successful in walking Holly.
Holly isn’t a huge barker and will generally only bark to let you know that someone is here. Even though she is playful, she’s not boisterous. Her all time favourite thing to do though is chase water; be it the hose or trying to stop the water coming out of the sprinkler. She hasn’t been to the beach before, but once introduced, she’d probably love it. Holly would be fine with kids as she’s had the kids from next door come over frequently and she has been very gentle with them and responds well to their commands. If she were to knock a little one over, it would be because she doesn’t realise her true size. She would love the attention of a child and a friend to play with her and follow around.
In terms of other four-legged friends, Holly has been around other dogs, but not regularly. On the times she has been around them, she has been fine, and she does try to play ball through the fence with the dog next door. When she plays her “catch me if you can game”, she will say hello to the other dogs on the block and doesn’t cause a stir. The only thing Holly isn’t great at around other dogs is trusting that they won’t try to steal her meals from her bowl, so if she goes to a home with another dog, it’s a must that they be fed well apart from each other. A meet and greet with a potential doggy pal will be required anyway when considering a new home for Holly. Cats and other pocket pets wouldn’t be recommended as Holly does like to chase.
If you think Holly would be a good fit and you can continue to give her the loving and safe home, that she’s now become accustomed to and still deserves, please contact Olivia at horvat13@gmail.com Holly is located in Cessnock and is available for adoption interstate.
