About Sasha
Likes, Dislikes, Fears, Endearments and Quirks
Sasha is a warm hearted dog, who enjoys love and attention. She is a very placid dog when given the right amount of exercise and attention. However, she has not had a walk for 6 months and is basically living down the side of a house, not seeing anyone until she is fed at night.
She likes loads of exercise and attention, tummy rubs and scratches behind the ears. She dislikes baths.
Sasha has not had much to do with other dogs recently but her owners believe that while she will not initiate anything, she will stand her ground if another dog threatens her family.
Sasha jumps up and chews things when not exercised however, considering her current situation, is well behaved. This is likely to improve with the love, attention and exercise she deserves.
Ideal Owner
Sasha would suit a couple or family with older kids that can take her for a walk every day, play with her, chase her and give her lots of tummy rubs and scratches behind the ears.
Sasha loves the great outdoors but is also a steadfast companion who will snuggle up of an evening.
As Sasha has not had much to do with other dogs in recent years we recommend she is the only permanent dog in the home.
She should be ok for full time workers (9am-5pm) as long as she is a central focus when people are home.
Her new owner will need the patience and skills to help Sasha transition from not having much attention or exercise into a routine that involves regular exercise, attention and mental stimulation.
As Sasha is people orientated she needs to be part of family activities.
She will not suit homes with residents that are very young, frail, elderly, renters, time poor or novice dogs owners. Preference will be given to folks who know the breed.
Tolerance to Being Alone During the Day
Will alert to something strange but is not currently a nuisance barker. Initially she barks when people leave, but settles.
She will suit any of the following:
- someone home more often than not,
- someone that works from home,
- part time workers,
- empty nesters,
active retirees,
- full time workers (9am-5pm) as long as she is a central focus when home.
While she prefer the company of humans she can cope alone.
Exercise Requirements
Medium - she loves to run and play. She cannot miss a day of exercise.
When ON a lead ...
Like most dogs she starts off pulling but settles. When last walked 6 months ago she would bark and pull when she saw another dog but if it approached was likely to cower and hide behind your legs.
When OFF a lead ...
Takes off and won't come back.
Type of Yard Required
Medium to large interesting and secure yard with normal 6 foot ( 2 meter) high fencing. May take advantage of an open gate and wander off but does not usually try and escape.
Been Good with Other Dogs - not socialised for 6 months
Not Good with Cats
Good with Kids + 8 yrs - may jump up on a small child
Toilet Trained
Size 20 kgs

______________________________________
We strongly recommend you read the profile carefully where everything we know about the dog/s is outlined.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) https://www.dogadoption.org.au/expression-of-interest---adoption.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner(s). It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog(s).
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we offer a 2 week cooling off period but do not usually allow trials. See here for the difference https://www.dogadoption.org.au/can-my-dogs-new-owner-have-a-trial-period-before-deciding-to-adopt.html
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
