About Thunder
Introducing beautiful Thunder – an almost 6 year old male Border Collie x Malamute. Thunder is a lovely boy who will charm your socks off - he has big amber eyes and has the fluffy coat of a big grizzly bear.
Thunder is a big ball of fluff – he loves to catch his football if you throw it to him in the yard, he’ll leap into the air to catch it and show you some super cool jump moves. His favourite toy is to chase bubbles from the bubble maker. Although he’s a border collie x he doesn’t have the active energy that you would normally associate with a border collie – this boy is after a chilled out life with you.
Thunder walks well on lead - he'd enjoy a daily walk in his ideal home as he loves a good sniff and to explore his surroundings. He would be OK in a home with full time workers as long as he was walked each day and is given big meaty bones, his beloved toys or chews to keep him occupied when you're out. He is a big woolly boy who sheds a lot of hair, so his new family will need to be happy with all that hair in the house that this big bear will bring!
Thunder is shy with new people, visitors and kids as he's received trauma in the past to cause distrust. He will warm up to gentle and caring people given time and space. We would like his new home to be with a couple or single who understand that dogs who have previously been traumatised and their need for space. Although he has lived with children we would prefer a home without them as they may find his cuddly teddy bear appearance too irresistible to allow him his own space. A mature couple whose children have already left the nest might be a good match for him. Any men in the house will need to be very gentle and keen to commit time and effort into building long term trust with him - he is best suited to a quiet and relaxed home.
Thunder is an inside / outside dog and needs to be allowed inside when his family is home. He’s quite content to sleep on his own comfy dog bed on the floor in the lounge room. His perfect family would be one who will treat him as a member of the family and will commit to his well-being long term and help socialise him with new people in a positive and rewarding way. He doesn’t need a big yard, however he does like to chase his football when you throw it so a yard large enough to play this game would be great for him. He absolutely loves to chase possums, so he is not suited to a home with cats, pocket pets or chickens.
Thunder has been in foster care with 2 other medium sized chilled out female dogs and he happily coexisted with them. Although he has lived with other quiet dogs he doesn’t interact much with them – he is more of a people dog. He is OK as an only dog as long as he has attention from his people.
If you've got a place in your home and heart for a big lovely bear like Thunder please contact us for more information.
