Hi, my name's Mercury & even though I’ve had a rough life so far, I have made lots of progress since being in foster care. Although I’m staying hopeful, I am a bit tired of being passed around & I would love more than anything in this world to have a permanent place to call home.
I like to act big & tough sometimes, but I'm actually a giant softy who likes to watch my family adoringly while they potter around. Sometimes I like to follow from room to room just to see what you're up to.
I love to take naps on the grass in the sunshine during the day, & then at night I love to curl up & cuddle my back paws while I sleep.
I like to nap on the couch, but my legs are quite long so sometimes when I roll over mid nap I tumble off the couch. I don't like people to know I'm clumsy like that, so when that happens I pretend to look around the couch as if some outside force was clearly to blame for my fall.
I am a bit of a worrier, especially when it thunders. I tend to whimper quietly & need cuddles & a bit of reassurance. If it happens during the night when everyone's in bed, I sometimes try to sneak up under the pillows, I'm very stealthy though so no one realises. Sometimes I worry about my family being safe, so I check on them during the night & like to give them a kiss & cuddle.
I get worried around other dogs too. I get very worried that they will come & bite me after a few bad experiences. Strangers are a bit scary as well but if you let me know you’re not going to hurt me, I will be your friend.
I LOVE playing fetch with anything! It's my favourite! Tennis balls & squeaky toys are my favourite things to play fetch with. Sometimes I go for walks by the tennis courts & love to look at all their tennis balls. If I'm really lucky, a few times they have forgotten one over the fence & I carry it home to put with my collection.
Toys that squeak are my favourites, but sometimes I try to trade a really good squeaky toy with my foster carer for her dinner. She hasn't given in yet, but I'm hopeful! I also love stuffed toys, my favourite thing to do with them is to rip the stitches... they are filled with white fluff that is just so amazingly fun to pull out!
When I go on walkies, I sometimes like to plan a sneak attack on the birds I see. I pretend I don't see them until I'm close & then I bark and pounce. They are very quick though, and get away. I know how to walk properly on a lead & I will stay right by your side. Sometimes my foster mum takes me for runs in the park when we go out, but she's hopeless & I have to slow down & keep looking at her to encourage her to keep running.
My foster carer tells me that I’m a very good boy. When I feel safe I am easy going & I feel very relaxed. I never do wees or poos inside & I will hold on all through the night until someone lets me out, I have very nice house manners!
I’m hoping I can be a part of a family one day soon. I would love a human who is kind & understanding of my personality & if you have previous experience with canines that would be a plus!
I can’t cope with other animals in my environment so I need to be the only one. I don’t plan on trying to escape but a high fenced secure yard would be ideal.
I’m praying to find someone who will open their heart & love me unconditionally because I really don’t want to end up living the rest of my life in a kennel.
All adoptions come with a two week trial period and after that period, the animal can be officially adopted by their new owner.
