I’m Lucy. I’m a huge, cuddly girl with a loving nature. I think I’m a lap dog and would love to sit on your lap but they tell me I’m waaaaay too big for that!!!! Because of my size, it will be important for me to live in a home where my owner(s) are experienced with big dogs. I would looooove to be an only dog with a single or a couple where I can be cherished, spend lots of time inside and go out to exercise together every day.
I absolutely love running in wide open spaces like the beach and I make a fabulous running buddy. Camping is fun too, especially when my big doggo mate comes along.
I really like children, but it’s probably best if I don’t live with them for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I don’t realise just how big I am, and I wouldn’t want to knock them over as I only want to play. Secondly, I’m not that keen on fast and noisy things like scooters and basketballs - they make me nervous, as do storms and fireworks. And thirdly, I love my food and am protective of it with anyone who’s smaller than me.
I get chicken drumsticks for my teeth and a prescription diet to make sure I don’t put on weight. This helps my joints stay healthy. I had a cruciate ligament repair 3 years ago. I’ve been great since and I can run as fast as I want for absolutely ages. It’s brill!
I only bark if there’s a reason to. Coupled with my size, it makes a good deterrent but I’m not what you’d actually call a watch dog though, as lots of indoor time with my loved ones is hugely important to me.
I have good indoor manners and always wait to eat until I’m told. I’ve got a great party trick, too :) If you put a piece of meat on the end of my nose, I won’t eat it until you give me the command. Will you continue my training each day so I learn some more new things and practice what I already know? Being a big girl, it’s very important that I respond to what you tell me to do straight away.
I really love to play with nice bigger dogs when I’m off lead. On lead, I walk on a head halter, and I can react to other dogs that get in my space - my hackles go up and I’ll growl. But if you reel my lead in and you move me along, I’ll relax again and move along just fine.
A couple of hours flying is worth it for remotely located animals if it means we have the opportunity to be adopted. My airfare to Perth is $150 thanks to SAFE and a discount from QANTAS, and I can fly elsewhere in Australia too.
