On Hold
About Freddy
Eager to please, friendly and affectionate. Great family dog.
Other dogs
Yes. Friendly ‘’goof-ball’’. Fred is always eager to play and make friends.
Cats
Fred had seen cats on his walks and seems intrigued by them rather than the usual ‘’dog chase cat’’ scenario.
Kids
Yes. Fred still exhibits some initial puppy exuberance on first contact and might accidentally knock one over. He calms quickly once he has said hello. While his carers are confident Fred would not intentionally cause harm we recommend primary school kids and over – as a precaution.
Size
38 kgs
Exercise requirements
Medium – playful and energetic. Fred loves long walks but most of all to run around the park with other dogs. You can’t miss a day of exercise or equivalent play time in the yard.
How is your dog on/off a lead?
Ok on lead unless he sees something exciting and then can be hard to manage. Freddy is strong and if distracted will pull. Fred is good off lead if there are no distractions however, he will not come back when called if he sees another dog. Fred needs a little more training before you let him off the lead at the dog beach.
Escape artist
No
Toilet trained
Yes
Tolerance to being alone
As long as he is a central focus when you are home Fred will cope alone however, preference will be given to a home where he has another dog for company and/or someone home more often than not. Fred will alert you when someone unusual is about. He also tends to bark when no one is home especially when people pass by but he does NOT consistently bark. He likes the whole family to be home and
settles when everyone is in for the evening.
Likes
Company – Fred is very affectionate with people. Social Interaction – Fred loves to play with other dogs. Chasie - people chasing him or him chasing other dogs.
Beach. Big marrow Bones. Fred’s favourite toy is an old empty flower-pot that he throws in the air. He is very entertaining to watch. He also loves a ball being thrown for him to catch.
Dislikes
Thunderstorms - he chases the thunder around the back yard in the pouring rain.
Tap water and shampoo. He is also not fond of squeaky toys.
Ideal home
Fred will thrive in an active family with older kids with a decent size yard. Fred may bowl over elderly people or really young kiddies as he tends to jump up when excited (calms quickly though) and pulls on the lead when meeting new doggy friends.
Fred is a sweet natured, loving soul who is also very smart and easy to train. You will need to have the time, motivation and skills (Dog Adoption offers FREE group training classes). His sweet natured youthful exuberance needs to be curbed – not tamed.
Generally
This is a rare opportunity to adopt a dog with a youthful and unspoilt temperament. Fred is a dog who loves company especially human contact but he also loves his K9 friends.
Fred likes a routine and may not eat when away from home. Like many dogs these days
Fred is a cuddly dog despite his size and he will come and nudge you for a pat. He makes sure he says hello to everyone and also checks on everyone.

Adoption details
1) Read the dog's profile
2) Complete the expression of Interest form
http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
3) Speak to the carer and arrange a meeting
4) House assessment is completed
5) Adoption is completed with a minimum 2 week cooling off period (similar to a trial but with legal protection)
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
